Guest strangechild Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 I read a few posts on here saying that Nokia chargers don't fit into the socket on the cradle and the charging adaptor. It's true - if you're gentle. But give 'em a shove and they work like a dream! 8) I've tried this with a Nokia ACP-7X standard charger and a Nokia ACP-8X 6210 travel charger, they both do the trick. DISCLAIMER: I have no idea whether or not this will damage your/my Smartphone. The supplied AC transformer outputs 5V at 1A. I figure that the Nok standard charger (3.7V 355mA) will simply take longer to charge your phone. The travel charger (5.2V 500mA) outputs an extra 0.2V, but is rated 0.5A lower. Hopefully that makes up for the extra 0.2V - but there we may be on dodgier ground... :) Anyway, if someone can confirm that this is safe, we can all save a lot of hassle by only having to carry around the charging adaptor and not the AC transformer. After all, Nokia chargers are ten-a-penny and to be found just about anywhere.
Guest summie Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 I've been using a nokia charger at home since November. My originalk charger is plugged into my cradle at work. Not all chargers work mate. You can't use the old square ones as they don't have enough power - you need the "fast charger" which has 5volts (I think) running through it, whereas the old suare one had 3 volts running through it. You may have seen that I posted a while back about car chargers - I found an old nokia one from the market and this worked.
Guest FrankyG Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Yer....some of them do BUT don't even think about doing a software upgrade with a Nokia charger plugged in...trust me :!:
Guest kasuku Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 WARNING!! I had to do a hard-reset because my memory got corrupted after a Nokia Charge!
Guest summie Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 OK lets get this straight - I have been using both the original charger and nokia chargers on smartphones since november (and I had one on launch day). I've never had a problem with them. I would also go so far as saying that I doubt that the use of one of these chargers caused you to do a hard reset or is the bain of a upgrade. I know people that hard reset all the time from various downloads etc, it is rarely one thing you did that causes the need for a hard reset - remember your working with a first generation smartphone that has software from Microsoft. How many times has your pc crashed?!?!? I do all my updates using my cradle anyway - which I the orig charger plugged into - so if you wanna be ultra safe then don't use a nokia charger but if you want a spare then I think the Nokia does well. If you wanna buy another orig. charger then go ahead - but frankly i've had so many nokias I can't justify spending money on an original that does the same job. Hope this helps D
Guest nickcornaglia Posted August 1, 2003 Report Posted August 1, 2003 WARNING!...I used a Nokia Charger and my temporary internet files became loaded with pornography! Because my SPV did not come with a US adapter...I purchased an adapter from a US electronics store called RadioShack (just in case it's not there in the UK). It has a switch on the back that regulates the voltage...I have it set to 5 volts. It came with multiple tips as well. I have the same situation....give them a good push and they snap right into the cradle.
