Guest Dazed+Confused Posted August 2, 2003 Report Posted August 2, 2003 I bought an SPV, bought an orange PAYG sim and off i went happy as larry. Until I realised that about 80% of the SPV's features would not work. Called Orange, they said it's because of the sim, and that to have full internet access and MMS and email I would need a contract sim. Anyone know a way round this? I don't do contracts!
Guest martin Posted August 2, 2003 Report Posted August 2, 2003 I bought an SPV, bought an orange PAYG sim and off i went happy as larry until I realised that about 80% of the SPV's features would not work. I myself have an O2, Vodafone, T-mobile and Orange prepaid SIM and there all happy with the SPV. There are other people in the forum using pre-paid and many more prepaid users across the world. Its up the particular network to decide whether they give prepaid users full (WAP&WEB) internet access but most do now (including Orange). Orange only sell the SPV on contract and therefore they may not have had any information for SPV prepaid on their computers. Anyway... To get the Internet with an Orange PAYG SIM you simply need to change the Access Point Names. Goto Programs - Settings - Data connections Menu - Edit Connections - GPRS connections Orange GPRS access point is payginternet Orange WAP access pont is paygwap. Obviously GPRS will be a bit more expensive on PAYG but you probably know that anyway. Internet connection is £4 per megabyte This gives access to web sites (http:// in the address), E-mail, and Messenger. The WAP connections is free with pre-paid (Site with wsp:// in the address) Orange WAP homepage is wsp://orange.multimedia See here about Open Access (WAP) promotion http://www.orange.co.uk/multimedia/openaccess.html PAYG WAP promotion terms and conditions http://www.orange.co.uk/freeinformation/terms.html I'm not sure about MMS - its the only thing I haven't tried. Hope this helps :)
