Guest DMF Posted August 3, 2003 Report Posted August 3, 2003 Anyone know if theres like a "universal clear" for the calendar on the Orange SPV ? - i just got this 2nd hand off ebay and it contains like a year of reminders, appointments etc, hell even folders full of emails n stuff - if theres isnt a CLEAR function then this is gonna take a REAL long time.... Any way to do it thru active sync ?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted August 3, 2003 Report Posted August 3, 2003 Unless there is something in Outlook on the PC then no it's not possible, but as it's secondhand why don't you do a hard reset and give yourself a completely clean phone?
Guest nickcornaglia Posted August 3, 2003 Report Posted August 3, 2003 Or on your first sync...ActiveSync should ask which information is correct. Tell it that "PC overwrites handheld data" (or something like that).
Guest DMF Posted August 3, 2003 Report Posted August 3, 2003 Hmm musta missed that ..... managed to clear out the emails - but that calendar is huge --- reading about the hard reset, ppl look kinda nervous about doing it - also need it unlocking so i can put some games on but it looks terribly complex - gonna take it to an orange shop and see if they will do it for me since unlocking appears to be officially sanctioned by orange. Maybe they'll do the hard reset too.... never seen as much clutter on a phone b4...
Guest Matt Kirby Posted August 3, 2003 Report Posted August 3, 2003 Hard resest is easy - its the simplest way to get your phone to an "out of the box" state. For unlocking (I assume you mean application unlocking rather than network unlocking)- don't take it to an Orange shop as it's not officialy sanctioned by Orange retail, they will either say it can't be done, or will say that it's only for application developers. Click on OTA to go to Orange's developer site. This will unlock your handset for you for the purposes of "testing" applications. Basicaly they will do it but if anything goes wrong they won't officialy support it. Having said that unlocking is one of the best things you can do for the SPV, and MoDaCo gives better support than Orange could anyway!
Guest cybercamel Posted August 3, 2003 Report Posted August 3, 2003 I think the quickest way would be to sync with your PC, select the Month view in Outlook and then using ctrl, highlight every appt in view and delete. You'll have to it Month by Month I'm afraid.
Guest DMF Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 I havent installed Outlook 2000 because im already using Outlook Express, doint want 2 MS email clients on the system - bound to cause issues.... As for orange, ive done the website unlock (yes i meant the phone, not bothered about the network as im on orange anyway, always have been..., besides, it's illegal now in the uk.) and followed every guide here to no avil, ive emailed that wolfe guy twice too and still had no reply... starting to get real dispondent here, get the feeling im gonna have to shell out some cash to get this done. Oh ya - Orange's 150 Cust Services said they wouldnt unlock it because the registered user has to so it (i bought it 2nd hand), so i rang him to ring them, he was told it couldnt be done and directed him to ring me and tell me the developer's website.. *sigh* Orange's left hand really has no clue what it's right hand is doing. So i ring back Cust Ser... they say "Orange shop should be able to help you" AH HA !! so i rang them this morning (the Wakefield branch) - Not only would they NOT help even though they knew HOW.. but also DONT stock anything for the SPV other than the Car Charger !! and gave me Cust Serv, number and the accessories Dept. Rang the Accessories Dept and am told a pair of bog standard headphones is £20 !! - SOD THAT, came here, did a search and orderd the converter plug for £10, ill use my stanhaisers(SP?) with it :) They also quoted over £130 for a 256MB SD Card, i just grabbed one off ebay for £50 inc insured postage. 10 minutes later i get a call from Orange Cust Serv.. "We cant unlock your phone because it's 2nd hand and not an official upgrade through ourselves" - I asked how much that would have been, i was told £299 - OUCH !!! I paid £100 off eBay and ill be buggered if im gonna let Orange screw me over on it for sour grapes just because I didnt buy it from them... Very disgruntled here, Very...... a shame really, crackin good phone but complete jerk-off's on the helpdesks.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted August 5, 2003 Report Posted August 5, 2003 I havent installed Outlook 2000 because im already using Outlook Express, doint want 2 MS email clients on the system - bound to cause issues.... To get the most out of syncing your contacts you should really use Outlook as it's far superior to Outlook Express. Make the change and have your emails etc with Outlook etc you won't regret it :) Also when I used to use both I never found any issues.
Guest Posted August 5, 2003 Report Posted August 5, 2003 not bothered about the network as im on orange anyway, always have been..., besides, it's illegal now in the uk.) FYI - Network unlocking is not illegal in the UK. I guess that you are thinking of IMEI changing. Attempting to change the IMEI (serial number) of a handset; or possessing the equipment to do so is now illegal (it wasn't always). Unlocking a handset to work on another network is perfectly legal; Orange themselves will do it for you if you give them enough money!
