non standard screen skins slowing phone down??

I have made my own non standard screens to go with my mixer skin - they are all .gif files & rather than regedit the whole lot, I just copied my images over the ones already in use (from Midnight's reload skin - so I just copied my files into IPSM/Program files/Reload).

But the screen seem to take noticeably longer to appear than the previous reload ones, & sometimes the image will appear without text. I'm just wondering if it would be better to edit the registry again to a different folder, or are my images just too big (average size 7kb).

i also do the same but my average size is 13k, they dont seem to take long to load though. i use paint shop pro and the gif exporter to do mine and they work well.

Mmm... wonder what's wrong with mine then??

I use fireworks MX - and it exports these gifs at about 7kb. Maybe it's nothing to do with the image size then!? :?

See...? That's what I refuse to design multiple-screen homescreens...

But I'm not talking about homescreen images, it's the volume, alert etc. non standard screens.

The default images in the windows folder are 4ish kb, mine are 6ish. Surely 2kb can't be making that much difference. I mean - the ones in Midnight's modaco skin are about 18kb, & they work OK.

drblow, only thing i can think of is these gifs must be compressed in some way, i always use photoshop, and make sure the row order is Normal, as far as i know it uses no compression on the gif, so they may be a bit bigger but should keep the phone running smooth :)

oh, and kl1wdr, reload is a single screen homescreen and does run fast even with the 'extra' screens such as volume, error screens and the like.

I'll have a look at the compression in fireworks - I think I might get photoshop 7 off me mate, coz he also says it compresses gifs better than fireworks.

It's just a bit weird coz the homescreen works fine (they are jpgs - would that make a difference??).

I know what you are sayin' but other screens like the official modaco-homescreen are multiple screens....and that is what I meant... :wink:

Nevertheless the official screen looks gorgeous!! :)
