Guest Brody Posted August 8, 2003 Report Posted August 8, 2003 Having spotted Animated Today TM by Gigabyte Solutions for the Pocket PC, an application that allows animated customisable homescreens, i went about emailing the author to put forward the case for the development of a Smartphone application in the future. Unfortunately it runs on Macromedia Flash and so is not currently possible. The main information from the emails i have received are as follows: ----- Original Message ----- Hello, Have you considered writing similar software to Animated Today for the Microsoft Smartphone? It runs on a custom version of Windows CE. Information can be found on the following forum: www.MoDaCo.com. Please feel free to write a new post in the Development part of the site if you have any questions about the platform or potential market. Thanks ----- 1st Response Message ----- Hello Yes is the short answer. There is a new version of Animated Today due very soon with a massive list of features that would be perfect for the Smartphone (it even supports keyboard navigation). The problem is that Macromedia have not made the Flash player available for the Smartphone because they want huge somes of money from OEM's to include it. I have many contacts at Macromedia and until somebody licenses the player I cannot release Animated Today 2003. PS it would cost Gigabyte Solutions over $1 million to license the player and include it with Animated Today! Steve ----- My Response Message ----- Hello, Thanks for the response, I have encountered the Macromedia problem before, its such a shame, perhaps in a year when the Smartphone becomes more established Macromedia may cooperate. ----- 2nd Response Message ----- Yes I hope so. Macromedia are also using Animated Today 2003 (beta) to try and sell Flash to OEM's on PPC. So maybe they will release a Smartphone player to me for that reason. Steve Fingers crossed for the future! Gigabyte Solutions - Animated Today TM Thanks to Gigabyte Solutions and Steve for the prompt responses!
Guest nixy Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 I admire your motivation mate. I too wish it would happen and look forward to the day. Macromedia is available for ppc and I was under the impression the two units (spv + ppc) were not that disimilar where OS was concerned??? It would be a start just to develop Macro for svp. I was wondering if someone via forum might be sussed enough to go for it and rip the Macro code and get it to work on spv. As for Today (anima).... surely they could find a way around the costs. I imagine a large number of peeps worldwide going for the software on spv. I cant for a second imagine the costs being in excess of $1m+
Guest nixy Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 -----------JAVA--------------- Why arent these phones java compat? I thought at first from reviews that they would have put some kind of u RTFiles for java. But so far it would seem they havent. Outlook today could be reworked to work via a java interface couldnt it. It would be cheaper to develop as SUN Microsystems are pretty good I have read when it comes to development. (just a thought)
