Buggered up my phone royally!

I have the SPV E100.

Went and did the update on the orange website.

(I read somewhere that you get better battery life with ROM VER 1.3)

Apparently I shouldnt have done it.

When I turn it on now I just get the Orange sunset screen.

Spoke to Orange and they said I must speak to Microsoft (it might need a hardware reset???) Phoned microsoft and they say I must speak to Orange!

aarrrghhh!

What now?

I have a mate in my office with the same phone, any way of copying the boot files to the SD RAM and booting off that? or something along those lines.

HELP!

Try a hard reset (click the link).

Either that or re-run the update from the Canary tri-colour screen (hold record and power on)

Tried the hardware reset but i dont get prompted to hold the Action button.

The update that I have is V 1.3

Where do I get the latest version (1.5 i think) for the E100?

It's not available in the UK yet...

Hold the action button anyway, you'll get a "ERASE IPSM" option and nothing else. Select it and hold the power button when it says "PASSED", the phone will reboot, it can take up to 15 mins to sort itself out.

I dont get an "ERASE IPSM" option if I hold down the action button, nothing happens. It just stays on the canary screen. (FYI says Canary MV v0.98)

Re-ran the update (Will ROM v 1.3 work on the E100?) but the same thing happens. When I start up it still stays on the Orange sunset screen.

Heh, when it says "Press any key to enter bootloader", press and hold Action immediately. You should then get the erase IPSM option.

He he, welcome to my hell marclinnegar!

Read my posts at around 2.30 am this morning, did exactly the same thing, although i downgraded my bootloader to .93 first.

Basically, after i couldn't boot at the sunset, i installed every update rom i could find from the canary screen, to no avail.

I think what happens is that the IPSM gets corrupted during the intial reboot, and then it just won't fix even using Erase IPSM.

The only way i've got a half fixed phone (literally it took me 4 hours to get this far!) i had to run the imate update. this takes you back to 1.5 but you lose t9. It's a nice update, worth keeping, nice and clean and quick, but only when someone figures out how to get t9 on it.

However, the alternative was a phone stuck on the sunset screen, so at least i've got a phone now, and the i-mate boot screen is so sexy.

But i digress:

i suggest you go to canary and install imate to 1.5

then, once you've got your phone running imate, try to install the 1.35 orange update from canary. I tried it yesterday over imate, but it booted once, said i had no homescreen profiles, then locked up, then sunsets all night.

So i've gone back to imate for now whilst i try to figure out how to get 1.35 back on it:

here's how

I hope that you have a smartcard writer.

If not, get one.

Then, download 0.93 roms from smartphone france or whatever it's called.

use winhex, write 0.93 to a 8mb sd card, stick it in your phone and boot strap (ie power+record)

it'll ask you if you want to download it. Choose to do so.

This gives you 0.93 which is great, because it allows full backups.

Then, at every stage possible, backup everything to a >32 mb sd card. [using winhex these backups can be stored on your pc, so your sd card is re-usable]

This way i backup up imate 1.5 and recovered it when 1.35 didn't work.

Then, i would suggest you go to a jolly friendly spv owner friend who's got 1.35, boot up his phone into 0.93, backup HIS everything onto your >32mb card, and then stick that in your phone and Restore his everything on to your phone.

Hopefully you've cloned his phone, you've both got 0.93 and 1.35 and you've got no Bloody sunset screen.

I'll try this tonight, got my brother dropping off my old spv (he inherited it after i got e100)

Oh, btw, if you want to get 1.5 back on, tell your spv mate to bugger off and call your e100 mate round, give him 0.93, and copy his Everything onto your >32mb card. Again, restore this and you should all be happy.

And people, if anyone is feeling generous, i could really do with a clean 1.5, or even a dirty one; i didn't back up my 1.5, and after all the pullava, i'd rather have it back with it's crap battery life, then a dead sunset screen

marclinnegar: for some reason modaco won't let me PM you: hence

hiya mate!

was going to leave a phone number but that seemed a bit of a foolhardy thing to do.

I'm in central london - if you can get a 1.5, it'd be quite useful for both of us.

But basically:

get 0.93 rom from http://www.smart-expert.com/modules.php?na...op=getit&lid=18

you may have to register to download

use winhex to write this to an 8mb card. (need registered version...)

then stick this in phone, record+power to get to white screen and install 0.93 (you don't really need this, this is just to make a backup when your phone does work!)

Then, get to the canary screen and install imate 1.5, http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php...=68627&start=15

thanks for the usbterm info. will try it as well.

If you do use the Imate update it is at your own risk as it's not designed for the UK

Follow mono's advice first ie try re-runing the update (it mat take a few attempts

As for Hard Reset read the instructions carefully and it will be possible, keep the Storage card in the

phone as it helps to slow things down.

I've got the same problem... However wont Orange just send me another one as it's the phone that has screwed up?

Guest awarner [MVP]

Depends, what have you actually done? and what have you tried

to fix the problem?

Posted

I've gone thru all the processes listed for a hard reset but cannot be arsed to go thru the process of downgrading and all that... as I don't even get the options menu, just the Canary MV thing...

The 'funny' thing was that as I was in town today I went into an Orange shop to see if they could do anything and no-one there knew much at all about it... they didn't even know how to carry out a hard reset... anyway, new one on the way due to it being insured ;)

Hi. i just downloaded the bootloader 0.93. i have winhex software and 32mb MMC. i dont have card reader/writer but i could use my SL45 to copy the bootloader .93 file to my mmc. Now, do i have to change something on the bootloader file (BOOT-093.whx)? or just copy it in the mmc? what's the use of the winhex? will it convert the bootloader file into something the SPV could read? Please help me. Thanks.

Using winhex to copy the V0.93 image to the storage card.

If it is a proper bootloader just power off the phone then place the

card with the imge on into the phone. power on the phone as you would a hard reset, but do not press the action button.

Press the key when promted to, the card will now install the bootloader onto the phone.

Bored, nothing to do, so may have a go at screwing up my phone even more...

The bootloader that people are talking about, 0.93, is this the value that I see on the three colour Canary screen? If so I have v1.00 showing, so is there a version 1 out there?

Cheers

Yep

What you see on the Canary screen is the bootloader version you have.

V1.0 is out there but mainly with the new updates etc.

Posted

So is it worth just waiting for my 'new' phone to come along?

btw, is there a way of showing what version the boot loader version is from a normal working phone? This is so when I get the 'new' one I can just make sure that I have not been given a phone that is 'older' than mine....

Cheers

You can see the bootloader from the Canary screen only, as for checking to see if it's older or not? Any replacement phone should

be flashed with the latest released OS.

To hard reset on my E100 I had to:

Hold down record whilst turning on, before you get the menu "press any key blah blah" I had to quickly hold on to the action (joystick button) before the "press any key" message comes on, if I let it go that far then it didn;t work.

Then you get the normal option to go to 8-erase IPSM, and straight away it says passed, it doesn't say anything else after that so I just held down the power button, it reset its self and everything was like it was when new, it took about a minute to do this, on my original SPV although the first steps where more simple it took more like 10 minutes before it returned to its "Out of box, brand new state" which made me panic a bit !

It's ok you did it correctly, as you saw on the newer bootloaders

there is not and END option anymore just press and hold the power button to reboot.

The Ease IPSM is quicker on the newer versions but the length of time it takes to say PASSED can change.

In reply to shakers24 method I don't get the green LED come on at all and mine goes straight to the 'press anykey...' or with an SD card in, it pauses on the 'CARD FOUND' then goes straight to the 'press any key'. Is there any way of slowing this down? Orange have agreed to replace this, but it would be nice to get it sorted myself...

Guest awarner [MVP]

That's how it should happen :?

Make sure you have the storage card in then as soon as you

see "Press any key" then you need to press and hold the action key.

When the screen then goes white let go of the key.

Also the LED does not come on when doing this not sure why you mention this as I cannot see shakers24 mentioning this either?

Posted

erm, the LED bit was from a pm between us...

are we talking standard hard reset here, or one that has the bootloader on the SD card....?

Guest awarner [MVP]

Standard Hard Reset as installing a bootloader from card is a slightly different process.

Posted

good, though for some reason mine still does not want to play ball.... still Orange are sending me a 'new' one as we speak ;)
