Browsing the net on my PC via an SPV E100 - is it possible?

Hi,

Upstairs I have an old Windows 95 PC, which has been up there for many years, completely unused as it has no internet connection. As I've just bought an SPV E100, I thought I could connect the phone to the computer to get an internet connection on it (purely for using MSN messenger on a big screen and with a keyboard - nothing requiring too many MB's).

What I want to know is:

1. Is it possible to use the SPV as a modem on Windows 95?

2. How do I do it, with a USB connection?

From what I've read, I don't think the USB modem driver will work with WIN95 or WIN98. I believe its WIN XP/200 only. If you have a USB connection to this computer then you could always upgrade the OS.

Alternatively, I imagine that the you could use a SERIAL connection. See this option in Programs-Settings-Accessories-Modem link. If its only to use messenger then the data transfer rate shouldn't be a problem. You will need a cable like this one http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/1558.htm

P.S. I've never tried setting up the SERAL link myself so I would do a search for more information in the Modaco Topics first . Good luck

if its just messenger with a keyboard your after you could just use the program that allows you to control your SPV from your PC. (can anybody help with a link:?: )

ive used this and it works very well---of course the USB modem is much better--just make sure windows update is turned off :? :) .

Yep MS do not support the modem drivers for ME and below :)

it's a pain being forced to upgrade :x

Does that mean weather I use the serial cable or USB - it will not work on Win 95.

Ok - not the answer I want to hear, but it's great to know.

Just out of interest: is the reason it won't work because no one has developed a driver for the SPV to work as a modem thats compatible with Win 95/98 yet.
