Guest nickcornaglia Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 I know this is a stretch... I have a cable modem and have been losing my connection alot recently. Normally it works flawlessly...except for the past week. Probably a coincidence...but I keep losing my connection and it's always after I post on Modaco. Is there ANY possibility that there is something being thrown to my PC that may cause me to lose my connection. Or cause my provider to drop my connection or something like that?
Guest fraser Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 Very unlikely that modaco is causing the problem. Are you in the UK? Perhaps the unusual heat is causing problems with your kit? Not unheard of...I've seen hard drives and PSUs die when the temp goes up.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 He's in the US ;p It's unlikely its MoDaCo, most likely its your cable company being crap. Call them up and moan :) From what i've been told, US cable networks are NAT'ed a dozen times before you hit the internet-proper, may be an issue there...
Guest nickcornaglia Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 Just a strange coincidence that this is the only site it's been happening on. I'll call the cable company. When I unplug my modem and plug it back in to reset it....it works again. I'll call the cable company. Thanks.
Guest Gorskar Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 You might be thinking that just because you spend a lot of time at Modaco :)
Guest nickcornaglia Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 That's what I was thinking.....too much time. I need to get an additional hobby :)
Guest Flash Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 On a slightly 'off topic' off topic, I'm finding that the MoDaCo pages are taking much longer to load (I'm using Broadband). All other sites still seem ok, but this one is noticably different.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 I'm in the same boat....the forums takes the longest to load. A bit jaded by broadband but it takes 20-25 seconds sometimes.
Guest blewer Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 Have you got call waiting? If you are online (cable) and someone calls you, it often disconnects you. I had this problem for a while, I stopped call waiting now no probs at all. Just a thought Adam
Guest nickcornaglia Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 My phone doesn't go thru my cable. It goes thru my telephone lines. My caable is just for TV & Internet. Does your telephone go thru your cable connection?
Guest mudboy Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 Have you installed a firewall lately, if you lose connection every few hours, it may be blocking the cable modem renewing its ip address. I know it happened to me
Guest nickcornaglia Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 The same firewall that I've always had (Norton). BUT...I did re-install after crashing my PC. That COULD be the reason! I'll look into that now. Thanks.
Guest blewer Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 My connection is through phone line too. Sorry when I said cable I meant cable 56k.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 I thought you had one of those fancy internet phones. :)
Guest blewer Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 Oh, a new toy. Maybe i'll get one. I love gadgets.
