Guest jim Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 Hi, Ive been testing a web interface today for sending cheaper SMSs from mobile devices, especially the SPV but the web interface would work on other "Smartphones" and WAP devices in the near future. Im hoping to download and install the SDK sometime soon and maybe knock up a simple program to access the web interface, but I may need some help as I dont currently own an SPV :o Im just wondering, would many people be interested in something like this? Also, what kind of costs would you be prepared to pay? A couple of problems is that T-mobile seems to be more expensive to send a message to, and so that would cost between 1.5 and 2 times the normal price, also, to accept payment by Paypal or Credit Card would have to include some kind of surcharge due to the prices charged to me by the credit card processor I use and Paypal. If anyone is interested or has any comments please just let me know, Thanks :)
Guest fraser Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 There is already another service doing this for the SPV, with their own application. You'd need to charge something that was competitive with them, and maybe do something cool in your app that theirs doesn't. But if it were reliable and well priced, I'm sure you'd have a few takers, myself included.

Guest fraser Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 I did, but just checked the other thread. I'd been ignoring all the Planus stuff lately, didn't realise how bad it had gotten!
Guest Firaas Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 Just to let you know, Adam and I have been working on a service like this, supporting the SPV, P800 and PC platforms, for some time and it is currently in the late production and testing process, due for launch very soon. Here's a preview to whet your appetite:PC web.jpgP800 interface.jpgSPV interface.jpg
Guest squall Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 i would use a reliable service like this, for the right price anyway  expecially now with free grps
Guest squall Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 the free orange email promotion gives access to grps to, for free

Here's a preview to whet your appetite: Sounds good..and TBH...anything which is cheaper than standard txt cost is better! Especially international rates. What I like best about the previous Planus app was that you could access your contacts (albeit a bit clumsy) but any app for sending txt's, accessing contacts is a must, don't you think? Anyway, here's one beta tester ready and waiting :)
Guest Rob.P Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 I'd be up for your service, judging by the screen shots you already look more professional than Planus, just remember to communicate a bit more than Planus
Guest Coucou Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 that looks excellent, i'd definitely use it - if it cost less than text message bundles :) FrankyG: I thought text messages were the same price internationally? Is that wrong?

Guest Rob.P Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 I'm confused I never got charged extra for txt messages when I was in Thailand, sometimes I was on Orange sometimes I wasn't, probably just lucky, I won't tell Orange.
Guest ajb3000 Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 When did you go? It sometimes takes a month or two for foreign networks to send the bill to Orange.
Guest Rob.P Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 March of this year, musta reached by now surely *beads of sweat prickle on Rob.P's forehead* :)
Guest fraser Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 They never used to charge extra. They realised a lot of folk were SMS'ing from abroad, so they simply hiked up the price to make a quick buck. What's the data transfer cost of a 200 byte message?
