Guest Paul [MVP] Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 There are rumors that MiTAC Mio 8390, the next version of the MiTAC Mio 8380, will be lighter and thinner with a higher resolution camera and Smartphone 2003 , will be released in September. Guest Brody Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 September eh? I would have thought that Orange would release a handset when Smartphone 2003 is released seeing as they obviously have the connections with Microsoft by now. I suppose all we can do is watch this space...! Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest Gorskar Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 I expect the upcoming "SPV2" or voyager or whatever will run SP2003, and we know can be expected to be released on Orange towards the end of the year.
Guest ajb3000 Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 it doesn't look that much smaller to me, but it "looks" a lot more expensive, and with a decent quality camera and SP2003, i'll probably buy one over the SPV2.
Guest sabio_proeliat Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 Realease in China in Sept or worldwide?
Guest Terwin Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 They need to move that camera placement on the 8390. It looks ugly as sin with the camera lens there. Looks almost like an after thought.
Guest Gorskar Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 I don't think it looks that bad.... I'd have that design over the original mitac anyday :)
Guest yoos Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 Anyone have any inside info on it having bluetooth?
Guest liex Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 Anyone have any inside info on it having bluetooth? No bluetooth
Guest nickcornaglia Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 Is it possible that this phone is not a Smartphone? Looks alot thinner left to right than the 8380. Can the screen be that much smaller or is there alot of meat currentlt on the left and reight of the screen? Has the SD slot, or so it seems. I'd like to see a pic with the lid opened.
Guest yoos Posted August 20, 2003 Report Posted August 20, 2003 I'd also like to see the phone in my pocket...
Guest [email protected] Posted August 29, 2003 Report Posted August 29, 2003 Greetings Smartphone enthusiasts. I've heard that the Mitac Mio 8390 DOES support bluetooth unlike its predecessor 8380. So far, the absence of bluetooth has been due to the lack of support in Microsoft Smartphone 2002, but the 8390 will run Windows Mobile 2003. Will the 8390 support 3G-networks? I've heard that the 8390 is one of two Mitac releases planned for year-end. Does anyone have any information on the other one? /Malte
Guest leo-balou Posted September 22, 2003 Report Posted September 22, 2003 According to posts today on Smartphone 2002 Mitac says NO BLUETOOTH. This is a real shame as I've had my eye on this phone for ages now as it appeared to have all the functionality I desire (good processor, camera, flip(protected screen), 2003 op sys etc). Apart from the illusive Asus Smartphone AGP-600 (see chart here) nobody seems to be developing a phone that incorporates all the features that will be fully supported by the 2003 operating system. Does anyone know of anything else deing developed?
Guest bluedrizzle Posted September 22, 2003 Report Posted September 22, 2003 click here for 8390's open flip......so it's worldwide o wat in September? no one has idea about it?
Guest Richie M Posted September 24, 2003 Report Posted September 24, 2003 From David McNamee c/o Smartphonethoughts I've been nosing around for the last few days trying to figure out how I can get my hands on an 8390. I just received a very polite response from Mitac. According to the sales rep who contacted me, Mitac will not be releasing the 8390 until sometime next year. Of course, that makes perfect sense considering that they only recently launched the 8380. Still, I was hoping for better news to report!
Guest bluedrizzle Posted September 24, 2003 Report Posted September 24, 2003 wat? next year? sigh* hope its not true...
