Guest Paul [MVP] Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 I recently had the pleasure of becoming the proud owner of the Jabra Bluetooth kit for Microsoft Smartphones, as sold at smartphones.org.uk for £79.99, and I promised I would give you my thoughts... so here they are :) To be honest, I've always been sceptical of bluetooth headsets. While trying to untangle a personal handsfree cable in a car is a nightmare, I always thought that a bluetooth headset would be uncomfortable, a pain to charge, and they have previously been a lot more expensive. So... Uncomfortable? Suprisingly, not! Well, not that surprising if you've ever worn a Jabra kit before. The headset is pretty light on your ear, and the rubbery bit sits very comfortably. The standby time on the headset is very good, but I'm still grappling with the best way to charge it. Generally speaking, I charge my phone religiously every night, so at the moment I just plug it in there. Since I will be using the kit mostly in the car, i'd love to be able to get a car charger (and apparently there will soon be one available!) Price? 79.99 IS a lot for a headset, there's no 2 ways of looking at it. Is it worth it? For me, I think yes. I talk a fair bit in the car, and the cabled headsets were just doing my head in... sorted! What really swings it for me is that the headset will work fine with future full bluetooth enabled phones, so theoretically, I won't need to buy another one for a while! In conclusion, if you have the spare cash, it comes heartily recommended! Please post below any questions about the headset! :o P
Guest nickcornaglia Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 Paul: I've purchased 2 Jabra BT headsets in the past via eBay. I sold one as a set with my T68. Sold the 2.5mm version to a friend. Both came with car chargers included. (Not in the box...but as an extra addon from the seller.) The company was http://www.alphanetproducts.com I just checked the website and they sell them for US$7.95
Guest Siraris Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 My boss just got 2 of them and is even more in love with his SPVx then before. He is hard to please too.
Guest mcwarre Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 I appreciate that this is the only Bluetooth headset to work with the SPV, but as Bluetooth headsets come and go it is not in the top half (IMHO). I have the Jabra for SPV and Sony Ericsson HBH-35 and Plantronics M1000. The last 2 wipe the floor with the Jabra hands down. Still for those that need it (car usage comes to mind) then it is worth getting. Bear in mind that you will still have this when Smartphone 2003 comes out with (hopefully) imbedded bluetooth. The question is will you want to use it with the Smartphone 2003? I wouldn't really. But that is my opinion. In essence the Jabra is good but only because it brings a bluetooth capability to the SPV; otherwise second best. :)
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 So what's better about the other 2? P
Guest mcwarre Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 "]So what's better about the other 2? P HBH-35 Battery life for a start. The HBH-35 gets approx 6 days on one charge in standby (you can switch it off when not in use which makes it last even longer). IMHO it is far more comfortable to wear (for extended periods) as you don't have that gel piece in your ear. You get a free carry case. Same charger as Sony Ericsson phones so one less things to worry about. Most important is call clarity. The Jabra seems to have a low, constant hiss all the time. The HBH-35 is crystal clear. I don't know if the Jabra's call quality is down to the SPV headphone socket as I have had similar noise etc on the original handsfree. Plantronics M1000 Similar to the HBH just slightly less battery time. Call clarity as good. Again more comfortable to wear. I would rate them as follows: HBH-35 8/10 Plantronics M1000 7/10 Jabra BT200 for non bluetooth phones 5.5/10
Guest marzzz Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 i did not know my spv had bluetooth???? does it???
Guest Brody Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 No it doesn't! The Jabra headset comes with an adaptor that allows the headset to work with the SPV. Smartphone 2003 phones will have it embedded when its released. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest simon11 Posted August 19, 2003 Report Posted August 19, 2003 It looks too bulky to me. It looks almost as big as the phone. I Can't imagine walking arround with this stuck on my ear. Also I would probably loose it. I like the idea of having my earpiece threaded through my clothing and clipped to it. A single pop in earpiece is the best way for me. £79.00 to have that ugly looking cumbersome piece of plastic hanging on your ear. Plus a base station for the bluetooth hanging arround your waste. You have to be joking!! HA! Ha! Ha! :) :o
Guest mcwarre Posted August 20, 2003 Report Posted August 20, 2003 I like the idea of having my earpiece threaded through my clothing and clipped to it. Whatever turns you on I suppose. :) :o :P
Guest Rog42 Posted August 23, 2003 Report Posted August 23, 2003 Coupla replies to McWarre about the Jabra: Charge: You can switch the Jabra off too, saving the charge, although I'll admit that it doesn't standby for 6 days, but then I currently use mine with a Nokia 6310 which refuses to disconnect, so drains the battery. Still I get a good 2 or so hours talktime out of it, and it works with the Nokia charger :) Call Clarity: Must be your phone (or perhaps the 2.5mm adapter) mine is crystal clear. Tested to date with the Nokia 6310, SonyEricsson T39 & T610 Comfort: IMHO the Jabra is the most comfortable, and least obtrusive of all the BT headsets. Once in place it sits unobtrusively behind the ear. The (very few) people that notice it often just think it's a hearing aid. Which in a strange telephonic way, I guess, it is. Most, however, don't and you have to let them know in another manner that you're not talking to them, but are in fact on the phone. As to Simon11's comments about bulk: Looks can be deceiving can't they. You seriously can't compare the headset at 23g with the SPV at about 130g. In fact the very fact that you have such a bulky phone is exactly the reason to get the BT headset. So you don't have to have anything on your waist at all. So there's my comments. My question is: Is there another way to BT enable the smartphone? As you can tell, I already have a headset, and a current phone (6310) which I'm looking to upgrade. I do want a converged device, i.e. only one device with my contacts list. appts etc. (currently use an iPaq and phone), but it needs to have BT for voice and data. The T610 looks very good (and small), but it will be a departure for me from the Nokia (voice) & MS (data) camps. If there was a way to BT enable the Smartphone with say a BT SD card, this would be a goer. Has anyone tried that? Cheers Rog42 Earth? Mostly Harmless . . .
Guest Uzay Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 no smartphones supported with current bluetooth sd cards. mayby with future upgrades? http://www.expansys.us/product.asp?code=PA3172U-1BTM

Can you tell me if this works for the old SPV? :?: If so how, what addapter would be neede? :?: :? Does the Jabra headset support the old SPV or is it just the E100? :?: Jedi
Guest mcwarre Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 Jedi, The Jabra BT-200 (for non-bluetooth phones) supports phones with a 2.5mm 4 way jack. i.e. SPV, SPV E-100, XDA.
Guest mcwarre Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 P.S. The adapter comes with it. Look here
Guest @ngel Posted September 16, 2003 Report Posted September 16, 2003 I already own a bluetooth headset... Is it possible to buy only the adapter in order to use it with the SPV...?

Guest mcwarre Posted September 17, 2003 Report Posted September 17, 2003 Jedi, Don't mate! Honest. The adapter has to be carried everywhere and it is a right pain! I sold mine it was cr*p
Guest TonyL Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 I'm lost on my Jabra headset (easy for me!) - I bought the head set and placed both on charge - you have to by virtue of the fact that the cradle charges the head set too! OK, remove both units from charge and both units switch them selves on by default. I then carefully switch off the head set and then ensure that the cradle is off as well. Place both in my car, ready for use. Two days later take the units out, plug in to the E100 and remove headset and away we go. NOT SO! Although when switched off, the head set seems able to retain charge and be of use, the cradle is completely flat! Called www.l8shop.co.uk who informed me this was the case(!) and set Jabra an email who then told me the unit was faulty and to return it. Confused, I am. If the cradle is only able to retain a charge, even when switched off, for no more than two days, then it’s crap! It means that for those wanting to avoid the new laws coming later this year for in car mobile use means that they will have to leave the cradle on charge in their car permanently in case they want to use it. Or leave it by the front door on charge, ready for you to grab as your walking out the door. Surely in the "off" position, both units should be able to retain charge for a week at least to make the unit worth buying. If not, then I'll see if I can get my money back and either wait for a Bluetooth enabled phone or see if the Bluetooth SD cards a go'er. Any comments? Much appreciated ;-)
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 Mine retains charge OK? The cradle should automatically power off when the headset is in, maybe the headset wasn't pushed right into the cradle? P
Guest TonyL Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 No, I double and tripple checked that I had the unit both plugged in correctly and switched off - ie making sure the light stopped flashing on the head set and the cradle. Plus I ensured that the units continually remained off. Before I wrote to Jabra, I did a test: to charge both units on Tuesday. Switched both off then tested each one for 5 mins every evening(Weds/Thurs/Fri). Came to switch the units on Saturday, got in car went to make a call and the cradle was flat. That means that the cradle was in standby mode for no more than twenty mins over four days. Sound like a faulty cradle?
Guest kmason5727 Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 Hi everyone... I've kinda jumped in late, but I am really interested in this headset.
