Guest mrzap Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 The viewer has a new name, so it's about time for a new thread. Here's the latest and best version. (Vextech JARs are included for completeness, but they haven't changed since the last version. Installation is the same as Deemon's old instructions. I'll try and get an install doc together at some point)SPVue.zip
Guest Deemon Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 SPVue is a homescreen preview tool that runs on the PC. Whilst still in the early stages of development the tool currently allows you to load and view your homescreen make adjustments to plugin sizes, text layouts and sizes etc. You can edit the xml in your favourite text editor then send the changes straight to SPVue without the need to keep uploading new versions to the SPV to test. ( a slow and painful task at the best of times) We are trying to create a tool that will make creating homescreens easier by teaching you whats going on within the xml as you create it. Eventually the tool will provide you with on screen feedback on whats going on within each plugin with regards to font alignment, size etc... As we go forward..time depending we will add what functionality is required/possible. Please note this is not an editor, its a previewer , but we are presenting the information in a way that we hope will let you better understand XML and how to create homescreens using it. Hope that answers your question :-) cheers Deemon
Guest vijay555 Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 Deemon, haven't tried the code yet, and think it's a great idea, but have you thought about doing it in dhtml perhaps? this should be fairly wysiwyg anyway, i saw a html editor that used dhtml to allow instant previewing.. Will try to dig out code if i can. Anyway, keep up the good work! V
Guest drblow Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 Ha! Me again!! :) Em... tried my mixer skin on it - and got error opening file mixerbackg.jpg. Dunno why - image is in the Home folder. Am I really annoying you now??!! It is of course entirely possible that it is just down to my crazy xml file - like I say, I'm just a muppet who nicks bits of code from other skins & bungs it together the only way I can get it to work!!
Guest Deemon Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 DrBlow...the reason why it cant find that image is because you are telling it to look in the IPSMAPPLICATION DATAHOME dir as its the main background for that homescreen you do not need to give it a path. you only need this :- change that and itll load up fine....youll also see that you need to tweak your artwork a bit as your plugin images are slightly out of alignment :-) vijay555 Thanks..hopefully we will produce something that people will use... (not much activity in the thread so far though :-? ) Neither MrZap or myself know DHTML that well so thats why weve gone the java route..
Guest drblow Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 mmm... will try changing that path. the images dont look out of sync on the phone!? Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest Deemon Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 youll see what i mean.....some of the detail in the background seems to shift by a pixel as you scroll through the plugin.... I take it by the lack of posts that no one is really interested in this app.... please at least let us know if its useful..... cos if its not...we wont bother doing anymore work on it...
Guest adi116 Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 youll see what i mean.....some of the detail in the background seems to shift by a pixel as you scroll through the http://smartphone.MoDaCo.com/viewtopic.php?t=714>http://smartphone.MoDaCo.com/viewtopic.php?t=714>plug-in.... I take it by the lack of posts that no one is really interested in this app.... please at least let us know if its useful..... cos if its not...we wont bother doing anymore work on it... Please dont stop on improving this stuff :!: :) I'm very much interested in creating my own skins, but for the moment i'm busy with my work. I can't find extra time to study about XML. But please don't stop. I'm closely monitoring this forum. I'm waiting for that ultimate XML viewer or probably Home Screen Editor :o By the way. I cant view the plugins (date, sms, reminder, etc.) all i can see are those grid lines and position markings for the plugins.
Guest drblow Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 It would be a terrible shame if you did not do any more work on this app - it is the first serious go anybody has had at a proper xml viewer & I'm sure with some team work we can make it good! I changed the path of the background image & the file opened the skin with the background image - but produced another error for 'can't read input file - missed.jpg'. It won't scroll to any plugins, or show any text. Seriously, if you think that my xml is just crap - then should we just start testing with another xml file??
Guest Deemon Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 look though the xml and see where the xml is looking for that jpg file...i think its the ipsmappdatahome dir well mate apart from you no one else has let us know if they are interested in using it..... ill give it a few more days....after that...we will have to rethink
Guest JoelRae Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 Deemon & co ... I'm definately still using this tool, although slowly  I know ppl must be busy so can't work on it too much, can we keep the support goin tho? Take it easy guys, Joel
Guest Brody Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 Keep the work up guys, you've hit the big time! http://216.239.39.104/translate_c?hl=en&u=...-8%26oe%3DUTF-8 Just copy and paste the WHOLE url into a new browser, the word search ruins the link as MoDaCo links the word "search" to its own search (:))
Guest PsychoDave Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 Nice one Guys, This is just the kick up the behind I needed to start doing my own skins. No excuses left  It would be a shame if you stopped work on this just now. I think people just need a bit of time to realise how useful this app really is. Cheers again. :) :o
Guest Machineman Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 Hi there, I got the thing started but it gives a error with the nina.ttf what can be the problem? Can you help me out here  CU M8's :)
Guest JoelRae Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 This is from the original thread ... you can copy the two font files out of your windows directory on the smartphone and cop them to the root of the homescreen folder. Take it easy machineman :)
Guest Machineman Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 Hi, It is working now but if I have for example sms_over I get a error. Can the app sim these kind of skins? The over pics have to be in the home dir I checked that. CU M8's
Guest drblow Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 All these problems have been discussed in the previous thread. This app is still in development, so if you are keen to use it, please keep testing & responding to Deemon & Mrzap - we are keen to get some other people involved so the app gets a chance to continue!
Guest zeta101 Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 I've just been doing my first skin and i cant wait to get this working, its a bloody pain having to upload to the phone everytime i make a silly adjustment to the skin! and guys, keep up the development of this...im sure people will come to realise how useful it is in time :)

Guest Deemon Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 wow...dont read the forum for a day and look what happens...well it seems that SPVue will continue to be developed then...Im glad that people think its worthwhile. For the next update we are hoping to add better plugin representation. Also proper plugin support for multipage homescreens (currently they are a bit broken for that format skin) cheers Deemon
Guest drblow Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 Do we have to remove the full paths from all images in the Home folder?? i.e. if my xml for the phone has image IPSM/Application Data/Home/image1.jpg - for the viewer do I need to remove the path for each one to Home/image1.jpg etc??
Guest zeta101 Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 I got the cheerleader etc screens working on the viewer but when i try to open a skin ive been doing i get a "Document root element is missing" error. The skin works on the phone how its supposed to, but could there be somekind of error in the xml thats messing it up on the viewer but something i cant noticed when i look at it on the phone? thanks
