Guest ClintEastman Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 As I am sure a lot of you will know there have been a lot of speculation concerning the “Official” details on the SPV2 as posted on a remote part of the French Orange Site. Well it seems like Stuart Jackson (Orange Spokesman), had something to say, after MoDaCo alerted Orange to the web page: Declining to comment on the expected availability of the SPV2, Orange spokesman Stuart Jackson would only admit to much of the information posted online concerning the SPV2 - and particularly so its launch date - being incorrect and that it will shortly be subject to removal. Guest Thurstan Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 The SPV2 IS pencilled in for launch at the end of September, an insider informed me tonight. Orange are currently testing the handsets and want to have them in shops in time for Christmas. I'm hoping to get my hands on one to have a play early next week, and I'll let you know if/when it happens. In the mean time my E100 arrived today woohoo!
Guest Brody Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Come on guys, a few nights ago we were blessed with the presence of a beta tester from Orange in the smartphone irc room. Forgetting the debate of whether he was or wasn't genuine it provided great entertainment :) He said that the SPV2 was code-named Washington (not a bird as the SPV2 would have SP2003 on it which spawns a new style of codename, ie not a bird, apparently). He also told us that it had a slide mechanism with the keys behind the screen and had no green and red dial/hangup buttons and that sp2003 had integrated support for the action button to provide these basic functions. It also had no joystick but instead reverted back to the joypad style navigation kets. The beta tester's alleged handset was for testing ergonomics apparently and so had the space for an integrated camera but did not contain the workings, just a lens. It did boot up but had a dummy sim in, I suppose we'll have to wait and see :o. It was funny though!!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 Voyager isn't a bird either...
Guest ClintEastman Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 Voyager isn't a bird either... Nice point Mono. :) It’s amazing how many of these “Beta Testers” are coming out the woodwork!
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 Brody, i've confirmed that the person who visited IRC the other night was talking ! :-) The codename for SPV2 IS Voyager. P
Guest ClintEastman Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 Now there's a surprise! :) I can’t see them releasing it until Christmas though. And I take it that the rumour that it runs SP2002 is rubbish too, that would make NO sense.
Guest nixy Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 I'd put money on the fact that it is very if not same build look and quality as E100.
Guest AngelOfRage Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 is this going to have bluetooth? ive read conflicting reports so far, that the hardware *will* support it but it ships with Smartphone 2002 which does not support Bluetooth
Guest oli_wal Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 I really do hope it will support Bluetooth. Have this slight feeling though that I've heard somewhere that it isn't going to. pants. Oli Wal
Guest Brody Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 Whilst searching for the latest Smartphone news (!) i'm sure i read that the release of the SPV2 was to be slightly delayed which would tie in with it being released WITH SP2k3 on it, therefore supporting bluetooth in a software sense at least...
Guest oli_wal Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 As Mr Burns would say at a time like this.... 'Excellent' But obviously in his voice. Oli Wal
Guest hellboundpeanut Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 is there anything ( bar the codename, and vauge release date) that is a certainty yet ...? just wondering , ive been under a rock for a bit .. HbP
Guest AngelOfRage Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 Hopefully it will be released before November so i can get one when my current contract ends.
Guest ZeroK66 Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 I read an article saying that it did not included 2003, but 2002, however did have bluetooth - 3rd party sofware to support it. Who knows.
Guest Myke Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 stating sources makes your arguement so much more exciting. especially when its your 1st post :P but uh.. welcome to the board!
Guest Jakob Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 I´ve heard form people who has actually seen the SPV2 that the head/upper part of the phone will be a little wider (2-4mm), a little thicker (2-4mm) and more roundish than the upper part of the e100. Apart form that we´ll have to wait.. /Jakob
Guest Myke Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 hopefully that means its gonna have a built in camera! :- D
