Guest a z n A6 b o y Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003  I just got my Mio yesterday and havent even made a call on it and I already have a problem with it. It wont connect with the USB to any of my computers!!! Maybe its just the computers I am using now and I should wait till I leave Taiwan but why??! Everytime I try to connect with activesync it doesn't register it in any of the usb ports. But the computer will see it and try to register it but then it disappears after the driver installs. Whats wrong?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Make sure you install Activsync before you plug the phone and cradle in to the PC. If you have not done this you need to unplug, uninstall and reinstall again. More info here http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=142
Guest mar9118 Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 I had similar experience before, just open the clam shell and leave it open when you connect then it will be ok
Guest a z n A6 b o y Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 When the help thing says to reboot the computer after start mode than is the computer supposed to reload all the USB drivers I deleted?
Guest a z n A6 b o y Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 I am going crazy with this! I spent like an hour following those instructions exactly and nada!! What's up with this?!?! Edit: I think it might be the phone because I am on somone elses computer thats running Windows 98 and I d/ld ActivSync 3.7 and followed all the instructions from the phone manual and it still wont connect. Unless plugging the phone in before installing activsync affects the phone as well.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 It should not affect the phone only the Activsync connection if you plug the phone in before installing Activsync. HAve you tried the suggestion above about the clamshell?
Guest martin Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Do you have any firewall apps loaded on your PC's as I have to temporarily disable mine when loading active synch.
Guest rockdoc Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 heres what worked for me. Intially installed activesync to PC and then hooked up mio when asked to. Got message saying it failed to load proper drivers etc....could not connect. I disconnected the USB link and then closed down activesync and restarted the PC. I plugged USB back in and it was recognized as new hardware but needed a specific driver. Point the search to the CD to find that driver and voila....it installed no problemo.
Guest a z n A6 b o y Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 My clamshell is always open when I am attempting to connect it to make sure it does. Maybe its because I don't have the disc with me so I can't upload all of the proper drivers? Ill have it back in a few days so Ill try it again then. Nope no firewalls. But how come it wont work on any computers I connect it to? Like I have tried 3 different ones and none work.
Guest mar9118 Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 What OS are you using? Windows XP will detect the mitac mio without problem but others maybe you need the driver, you can also download the driver and English manual from the mitac service page www.mitacservice.com just click on "smartphone" then "mio 8380" then "go" :)
Guest a z n A6 b o y Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 Windows 98. Don't need the English manual. But where is the smartphone link?
Guest mar9118 Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 Did you try the mitac service site? please do that and download the USB drivers then try it
Guest mar9118 Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 Click this http://www.mitacservice.com/visitor/v_welcome.asp and then click on the "All Downloads" tab then "Smartphone" then "mio 8380" then "Go"
Guest a z n A6 b o y Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 I downloaded it. Then what do I do with it? I can't open any of the files...
Guest mar9118 Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 you have to install the driver, first you plug in the mio and let Windows detect the phone somehow it will ask for the driver if it does select have disk and point to the folder of the file you have unzipped then everything else should be automatic, but if Windows does not detect your phone then you need to go to control panel and add the hardware manually.
Guest a z n A6 b o y Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 Windows won't let me add the hardware manually.
Guest a z n A6 b o y Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 no one helping? I am back home and I downloaded activesync onto my computer and hooked up my phone but still nada! WHYWHY?
Guest mar9118 Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 Somethings seems to be wrong with your phone then, maybe you have to take it back to the shop :?
Guest a z n A6 b o y Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 I don't know if I can do that now. Ill try but yea. I hooked it up to another computer and it started to upload the driver but it said it had some sort of INF error or something. What does that mean?
