Guest Simon Desser Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 The long awaited "ClearVue" products are now available on Handango. They have released: ClearVue Presentation - For Powerpoint files ClearVue Worksheet - For Excel files ClearVue Document - For Word files ClearVue PDF - For PDF files ClearVue Image - For Image files The best thing about these products is that no conversion is needed to view the files on the Smartphone. Trial versions are available, and they seem to be sold as seperate packages or bundled together as ClearVue Office and ClearVue Suite. Source: MSMobiles
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 I've been using these for a while, and they're excellent! They allow you to view word document email attachments etc., very useful! :) P
Guest vijay555 Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 it's also a bit slow. But it works! Amazing to see tiny SPV rendering a word doc :) V
Guest joparp Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Wow, thank you for the news. Will try it out right away. :)
Guest nickcornaglia Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 After using the beta for a bit now...I have one problem. There is no flowed view on word and pdf documents like repligo. Without this it requires you to scroll left to right...to left...to right.... to read a document. Would be great if the software could make docs a bit more readable on the smartphone screen.
Guest Pagemakers Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Too slow and too much scrolling. Installed and removed. Not very usable in the "real world" at all.
Guest Terwin Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Being a graphic designer, having an actual PDF viewer is very handy. I can preview PDF proofs anywhere now. Anyone know what version of PDF this supports? :)
Guest amo Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Jus installed the Doc reader and its very handy!

Anyone know what version of PDF this supports? :) Hrrrm, after testing I realized that fonts don't render correctly. A huge problem if this is to softproof anything pdf. I suppose I could outline fonts before testing as a workaround.
Guest vijay555 Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 Sounding like a hypocrit, i waited ages for this program, but found it very slow, but an interesting concept. So i bit the bullet and tried Repligo, and WOW. Despite the extra step of conversion - which is one click only really, you get an Excepetionally pretty and useable viewer. Fast, smooth scrolling, and the flowed view is shockingly good - like Opera's smallview for Docs. If only this could be incorporated into live web browsing, hubba hubba. So, although clearvue stay on the phone for those occassions when i can't convert docs, i have to say that Repligo is IMHO the benchmark for great SPV coding. V
Guest nickcornaglia Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 I agree. If only repligo could convert directly from the phone. It would be the viewer of choice. But since it doesnt, Clearvue is necessary for viewing documents in email. If it flowed the word and pdf documents, I would overlook the speed issues.
Guest dewslat Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 this program sux... i have a dificulty in reading stuff cuz i have to use a lot of effort to read a bunch of doc!!!.. why ist there any Word(clone) out yet... I cant even edit my files into it, whats the point? :?:
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 Unfortunately MS saw SmartPhone as a file viewer only. Clearvue is the only "on the fly" viewer available at the moment, and easier to use than the conversion viewers.
Guest ppcsurfr Posted September 21, 2003 Report Posted September 21, 2003 this program sux... i have a dificulty in reading stuff cuz i have to use a lot of effort to read a bunch of doc!!!.. why ist there any Word(clone) out yet... I cant even edit my files into it, whats the point? :?: Well, you seem to be having problems seeing the point of it all... this app doesn't suck as you claim... and as it's name implies... it is a viewer. If you really need something that does far more than the Smartphone, maybe it would be a good idea to look at a Pocket PC Phone Edition which obviously will have more power and more functionality. An example is the Pocket PC's version of Adobe Acrobat which supports several viewing modes... another is SoftMaker's TextMaker which is a full featured Word-like app which feels like Word '97 crammed into the Pocket PC... obviously no clear way of cramming such a full featured app into a smartphone for the time being. If this is what you need, then go and get a PPC instead. Mabuhay! ~ Carlo
