Guest nkwk Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Auto Keylock ... Musthave and no i dont want to type a password evertime I want to use the phone. + Make the end call button a cancel button on the menus. + Utilising the last point, in the menu ... get rid of the home soft button (Whats the point of having an actual home button) and make it an "ok" button or something ... or create a way to customise the soft keys. I'm still on my 14 day return thing from orange and i'm seriously thinking of returning the phone but i'm kinda hoping windows mobile 2003 will be a hell of a lot better.
Guest vijay555 Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Re keylock: i set it up for a 1minute lock, with password set to "0" Then after a minute it locks the keypad automatically. To unlock, i just press 0 + unlock 2 clicks (almost 1!) At least as fast as a nokia, and added protection of not everyone will know how to unlock ur shiny phone. For the other points: nkwk - this is a User Interface design issue, not a Smartphone issue. Microsoft does a HUGE amount of work specifying UI standards (see the SDK), so that us lugs can use pretty much ANY product on windows, and know that "Copy" is always under Edit > Copy, or Ctrl + C However, as a coder, you can implement anything you want, so copy can be on the Help menu, or Ctrl+ Win + q if you want. The soft menus and keypad functions are programmer defined, so you have to bug the programmers, not the phone for consistency. But i do agree that it would make sense and be useful. V
Guest nkwk Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Sorry ... the last bit was about the in menu lag etc ... I hope they manage to thin some of the bloatware out and make it a bit faster. If the P800 had t9 i'd get that. Then get a later smartphone model when its all sorted. The thing is ... this OS can emulate half the stuff on the other phones if it doesnt have it built in. Im loving the GB emulator :) . Symbian looks a bit naff. I just hope that the OS upgrades will be faster and will install on this phone so I wont be using a casio organiser trying to run windows xp for the rest of my contract.
Guest vijay555 Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Hmm: if you prune the phone down it works fine. Mine could be faster, but it's far from unsable. I guess you either get used to + its quirks, or you tweak it till it does what you want: Strangely, i recommend to most people: SPV is not a phone to buy if u just want a phone, and it's not a great phone out of the box. However, after a wash thru Modaco, it comes out the other side, viewing word docs, playing gameboy games, browsing, editing, lists, mp3s, blah blah. p800 is only thing seriously close in form+function, but if i wanted that, i'd get an XDA. [see the old - is it a PDA or a Phone debate] V
Guest nkwk Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Will this shaft the Orange E100? lol what do you think? http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/v...opic.php?t=3961
Guest hk Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Quote from taht post "Works on: SPV, SPVe100, QTEK, Tanager". Mono could you give this a run on the developer phone tonight if I chuck the rom on my key drive from here. (I could have just mailed him that, but the likelyhood is he will see this first... lol)
Guest vijay555 Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 nkwk: read some of my threads on new spv 1.5 rom, qtek rom, imate rom. Personally, i think the e100 (which i have, had spv before) is a bit pants romwise - sms counter is useful, but the only visible advance, at the expense of poor battery life. I've got the qtek rom now, which has no usable english t9, but is great for battery life. If you want a faster phone and are prepared to work for it, get bootloader 0.93 + imate rom. Personally i'm going to wait till Uk Rom 1.6 comes out. It's good to hear that they're actually doing something useful with it. BTW, Paul et al, if the Rom is released, why not pursade them to issue a changelog! at least that way we'll know what's changed, because i'm getting tired of the "Emporer's New Rom" style updates, all talk, little action. V
Guest nkwk Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Which version of the imate are we talking here?
Guest vijay555 Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 no idea. upgradeB or something, that can have the optional Arabic support. Paul's got a thread something, called "can you believe i'm a crazy i-mate-ing mo'fo" or something. The link is in there. (2nd mirror, first link requires imei check) V
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 UK 1.6 > Qtek 1.5 > imate 1.5... Be patient people :) You shouldn'#t ~really~ install foreign firmware on your handsets anyway...
Guest vijay555 Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 I agree. I like qtek, and mitac phonebackup is great (although orange users don't need it, action backup is even better in a way), but my e100 has buggered and won't revert to an orange rom, so i'll patiently wait till 1.6 comes along. There's no incredibly compelling reason to put your phone thru the foreign rom ringer. V
Guest nkwk Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Great ... so the UK is already behind! :)
Guest vijay555 Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 I think it has been for every rom release, right? V
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 UK e100's are >= all foreign ROM's, and seeing as the rest of the world is only stocking Tanagers we are "technically" not behind at all.
Guest nkwk Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 I know it was a joke. Chill :) You guys get a bit serious.
Guest vijay555 Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 :) not sure how to link to the newsgroup, so i'll quote myself: nkwk: you ought to bear in mind that you're on a forum for people who actually like this phone, and take it upon themselves to defend it to Mr Nokia and Mr Sony. V
Guest nkwk Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 Of which neither I am.... I just want autokeylock :) Anyway i've got my copy of the SDK now so I'm gonna have a go!
Guest bargo Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 Re keylock: i set it up for a 1minute lock, with password set to "0" Then after a minute it locks the keypad automatically. To unlock, i just press 0 + unlock 2 clicks (almost I have a Qtek 7070, how do I set up the auto keylock? Where do I find the option to set it for 1 minute etc Thanks
Guest elvie Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 set it up for a 1minute lock, with password set to "0" Then after a minute it locks the keypad automatically. How do you do this on the SPV?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 In security settings, "Enable Phone lock".
Guest hk Posted September 12, 2003 Report Posted September 12, 2003 nkwk : Yeah I noticed that too :)
