Guest vinsanity Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 I was using my phone today and I accidentally put my phone on a big magnet for arnd 10 secs..is that gonna damage my phone?
Guest MECX Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 erm well does it still work>? it could damage the screen (make it go black) and if your unlucky some components inside --but if it still works im sure its fine :)
Guest spacemonkey Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Do compasses now point at your phone? Try stroking the magnet along your phone 100 times for more effect.
Guest MECX Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Do compasses now point at your phone? Try stroking the magnet along your phone 100 times for more effect. LOL --my phone now sticks to the fridge--very handy :)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 The magnet in the polyphonic ringer in my old j70 was nearly enough to wipe a floppy...
Guest davidhorn Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 Not sure about phones but SD cards are remarkably robust. I have a habit of loosing them, so now I stick them to a magnet on the fridge. Eight months and still no ill effects.
Guest HelloDave Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 SD cards are remarkably robust I wish they were! I've had the Orange 8mb SD sat in my wallet for 6 months in case I ever needed extra storage or a backup and it doesn't work anymore :) Think it must have got bent or something.
Guest Maverick Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 U guys!! This is not good.. Cant u some constructive suggestion? After all.. he is a newbie Ah... but that part about "my phone now sticks to the fridge".. LOL... brought more than a smile on my face :-)
Guest amo Posted August 19, 2003 Report Posted August 19, 2003 Erm, I dont want to know about your sordid fantasies...
Guest Coucou Posted August 19, 2003 Report Posted August 19, 2003 Sticking your phone on a magnet will probably not do any damage at all. As i understand it, and if anyone knows any different please correct me, your phone does not contain any moving parts and the memory is electronically not magnetically written. Magnets don't cause too much of a problem to pcs, the biggest effect they have is on the vdu. This is because in the vdu there are extremely fast moving electrons which are unconstrained and therefore relatively easily deflected by a magnetic field It would require a strong, moving magnet to wipe your phone's memory. Probably if a physical magnet was strong enough you wouldn't actually be able to remove it from the phone. I've made strontium ferrite magnets in a practical class, in that lab was an extremely strong electro-magnet, the kind you don't want to be in the same room as if you've got a pacemaker and certainly strong enough to wipe credit cards from several feet. There was a pc sat a few feet away, controlling it. It worked fine but they got through a few displays! Hope that reassures you anyway :) Posted from my SmartPig!
Guest ClintEastman Posted August 19, 2003 Report Posted August 19, 2003 Mmmmmmm VDU's...... The electrons in a CRT are constrained, by an electromagnetic field, thus mashup big style when you introduce a powerfull(ish) magnet. When I was a young wipersnaper I managed to trash the living room TV with large magnet, I was popular that week let me tell you but I did manage to use some creative magnet wiping to get it back to normal again! :)
