Bloody hell,

Installed zone alarm a little over 1 1/2 hours ago and have had 182 intrusions blocked 23 of which were deemed to be high risk !

ALREADY

I do believe that the first time you install a Virus/Firewall program, the early stats are somewhat exagerated ;-)

I remember when I first installed Norton Firewall & Anti Virus that no sooner had it installed, it came up with a high risk virus alert which it had successfully blocked. I then did a virus check on my computer and NOTHING else appeared. ie. in months of use I had never picked up a virus. Then suddenly within minutes of installing Norton I had one!

Coincidence? I think not.

I've had the same thing with Zonealarm but AFAIK the reason this happens is something to do with webpages that have been moved from (by going onto the next page) are still trying to copy themselves onto your computer (as they would normally).

Have a look and see if the majority of those blocks have been from incoming or outgoing sources. If you want to be sure run a virus scan with the lastest virus definitions installed. You can also run a spyware cleaner like AdAware. Unless you've got top secret stolen plans on your computer I wouldn't worry too much.

Or possibly just suspicious packets. Not long after i got cable (and stil;l have pop up alerts switched on on ZA) someone ran a port scan on me from ports 1-5000. Poor old ZA nearly fell over trying to list 5000 alerts in a few minutes. Still kept the bugger out though :)

Could have been worse, theres 65000 tcp ports alone... :)

[Note: Apologies to any tcp/ip guru's out there. I do know what i'm talking about, occasionally :o]

You should see your firewall logging attacks on ports 137-139, because of this virus that's been in the news.

I pity the fool that doesn't have a firewall!!T>
