Guest paddy_mcnulty Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 Hiya Everyone, First off I'd like to say thanks so far to everyone on the forum for their help and advice. As usual I seem to have another question... Has anyone had this happen to there phone. I turned the phone on one day to discover that it had reset the home screen to the default one you get with the phone. Odd I thought. When I went to check everything it seems okay like IA Album, All-Explorer SPE, Tasks that I put on from the Add-On that you get with the phone it was there etc. But they weren't really, only the icons but couldn't access the apps. I went to remove programmes so that I could properly remove them and then re-install/leave them off the phone but in remove progremmes there was nothing there. I want to remove all the programmes that I have installed so that I can definately free up memory. Anyone know where they've gone? Why has this happened? Has it done a Hard Reset of it's own accord? (why?) Is this a bug? Ooh, also. I'm thinking of ringing Orange Care to get another phone as a)the time from pressing keys to their actual function happening is now taking between 15 to 30 seconds. This is not very useful and quite annoying. Phone fault? or is this standard? :) At least 50% of the time when I try and call someone it either gets stuck on 'calling' with no sound, nothing so have top retry once or twice. Anyone know why? Sometimes takes ages (and maybe connects, or leaves me with silence, or when lucky actually atrts connecting me) and dosen't seem to make a differnce whether it has full signal or half signal (and where I am, like a known place for good reception). Are these software bugs that I should tell orange about. especially as I spend a lot pf cash with them so it would be good to have a good all round service. (for about £500 pa you'd think they'd make it good anyway) Just wondering... Cheers Pads
Guest vijay555 Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 Sounds like a phantom reset paddy. phone resets itself if the registry has somehow become corrupted, without telling you. Is the phone still unlocked? It normally locks itself afterwards. Given the work required to fix it, you'd be better off hardresetting and starting over. And while you're hardresetting, install Bootloader 0.93 and you can then keep a backup of your IPSM, including lock status and contacts and blah, on an 8mb card in your wallet. Then if it happens again, you've always got a working backup. V
Guest Eternity Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 How do I check the registry if it is corrupted, so I can check from time to time? Guest vijay555 Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 No, that's the thing, it's phantom buggery. can happen after running dodgy software, or from removing battery without shutdown, or just because it's sunday. It can just happen. Trust me - do IPSM backups. I recently lost my ipsm, and then my rom, and now i'm sad. I can't stress enough how easy it is to backup IPSM, and how many tears it'll save! V
