Guest hiredgun Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 Hi all! I'm having a problem with my SPV whenever ActiveSync activates on it - I get an error messages saying "Notification Error: Cannot execute IPSMProgram FilesSunnysoftWolWol.exe". It is *very* annoying  Given that I previously had World off-line installed, had it configured to refresh certain sites on ActiveSync, and have just uninstalled it, I'm pretty sure that this is the culprit  However, the reason I uninstalled World off-line was because the trial period had expired - I tried reinstalling World off-line to see if I could simply disable the synchronisation on ActiveSync, but alas it has remembered that the trial has expired, so couldn't  Finally, I tried searching the SPV registry using PHM Registry Editor, but couldn't find any entries pointing to Wol.exe  Does anyone know how I can stop this notification message appearing? Thanks in advance, Alan
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 Did you install this app via the PC? if so the prolem may be hiding in Activsync and not on the phone.
Guest hiredgun Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 Hi Thanks for the quick response :o Did you install this app via the PC? if so the prolem may be hiding in Activsync and not on the phone. Yes, I did install from the PC - I've now permenently removed the World off-line application from ActiveSync Add/Remove Programs, but the problem still persists  I did a quick scan of my PC's registry for Wol.exe, but couldn't find any references either :P I figure there must be a configuration file/registry key for ActiveSync (either on the PC or SPV) which contains details of applications to launch on sync - if we can work that out, then I think we can solve the problem :) Thanks, Alan
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 In both registries have you looked for enteries under Sunnysoft?
Guest hiredgun Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 In both registries have you looked for enteries under Sunnysoft? Have now :) There is a HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareSunnysoft key which I cannot delete on the SPV, nothing on the PC :o I presume the registry entries on the SPV are locked in some way to prevent people from avoiding the trial time-out? Cheers, Alan
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 more than likely but that key should not be giving you the Activsyncc problem you are getting :?
Guest hiredgun Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 Thanks for your help anyway, I guess I'll have to resort to a hard-reset I guess  Cheers, Alan
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 Why not give the makers of the app an email about the problem before dooing a Haard Reset?
Guest hiredgun Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 True - I *guess* contacting their Customer Services would be slightly less painful than doing a hard reset - but only just  I'll give it a go, although I'd be interested to see how much support they'll give to someone who has just uninstalled the trial version of one of their pieces of software :) Thanks for your help, Alan
Guest svk Posted January 8, 2004 Report Posted January 8, 2004 Did you ever find a solution to this problem other than doing a hard reset?
Guest hiredgun Posted January 8, 2004 Report Posted January 8, 2004 Did you ever find a solution to this problem other than doing a Hard Reset? Yes - I very recently discovered that there was an entry in one of my SPV's system database's refering to the executable file in question - I used a program called DbViewSp to locate & remove the offending entry (sorry, I didn't take a note of its entry :-(): DBViewSP Download
Guest rahulp Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 Could you provide more details? I too have the same problem and it is driving me up a wall!! I d/l the app and started it up but i could not locate the entry refering to Wol.exe. Under what heading is it located? Thanks!
Guest rh0926 Posted March 4, 2004 Report Posted March 4, 2004 I had the same problem and e-mailed SunnySoft. Here is their reply: Hello, we know about the problem but currently there ain't nobody who could correct it. If customers contact us we send them registration information to register the product and then either uninstall it or use it as a small satisfaction for the problem. Product: World off-line SPE 1.4 Reg. name: My Name Reg. key: XX XX XX XX XX XX XX XX The problem is that Smartphone OS has locked Registry and sometime it happens that the uninstall is not able to remove information from it. We will work on it when we have a free programmer Regards Ladislav Kriz Sunnysoft The kicker is that I registered the software and then uninstalled it. I STILL GET THE SAME ERROR. Thanks SunnySoft for a piece of crap I can't rid my phone of! Thanks for making sure that a Hard Reset is the only option. Thanks for all of the wasted time re-installing the several good, tested apps that other reputable companies release and support! Funny, no other company I've dealt with has problems with the Smartphone 'locked' registry. By the way, I'm working with an MPx200 on the US AT&T Wireless network.
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted March 4, 2004 Report Posted March 4, 2004 Try checking this reg key on your PC HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows CE ServicesAutoStartOnConnect
Guest rh0926 Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 Thanks for the suggestion Dr_StrangeTrick. Unfortunately, there is no AutoStartOnConnect key in my registry. I browsed to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows CE ServicesAutoStartOnConnect and I did a 'find' for the key. Thanks for the help.
Guest comebackdx Posted March 11, 2004 Report Posted March 11, 2004 Please can someone tell me how to remove this problem. I received the same email from Product Support - which is appalling, and I get the message every day. I look for forward to your suggestions.
Guest rh0926 Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 For all of the programmers out there..... Can somebody develop an exe file that does absolutely nothing? That way, I will rename it WOL.EXE and place it where it needs to be for this damn error. I'm hoping that it will find and execute the fake file and no longer be a problem. I just can't find it in my heart to do a hard reset! Thanks for any help anybody can lend.
