Guest goofy166 Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 I have a problem using my smartphone to send email. I have my outgoing server set to smtp.earthlink.net I can connect to my ISP and get my mail but any message I send returns a System Messages that says "can't find recipent". What confuses me is that most ISP and email hosts doen't allow relaying and it seems to me when you are sending an email from a phone to an ISP you are essentially doing a relay. Does anyone have any similar experience and know a way around it? Mitch
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 You have to set out going to your providers smtp ie If you use Orange you have to set out going to smtp.orange.net
Guest nickcornaglia Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 Earthlink does not allow you to send email unless you are signed in to their service, blocking port 25 (or something like that) so as not to allow spamming from an outside source. The only way I've found to send mail via earthlink is to use a CSD (dialup)connection into one of their ISP phone numbers. (though I never have tried it from the smartphone...this is my experience from my PPC days). I personally am using comcast broadband and their mailbox configuration to send and receive mail. Since I am not up to date on earthlink's practices, you may also want to check that under inbox options...you have 'server requires authentication' clicked ON. See if that helps. But I think it may be something that you cant do thru GPRS.
Guest Carbonara Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 I had the same problem and fixed it by leaving my pop3 server as the one provided by my ISP and using the Orange smtp server for my outgoing messages.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted August 19, 2003 Report Posted August 19, 2003 Seems the user is in California. He can't sign up for Orange Mail...can he?
