Guest dan_bs Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003  Apologies for a mundane post but I just cant get my spv to respond as per the threads i am reading. Basically, whatever i do, the phone just loads the bootloader screen (Canary v0.93) - I have followed the Hard Reset instructions but cant get it to obey the process. I'm desperate for some advice since I have only borrowed this and at the moment it looks a bit dead!!! cheers
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 Sounds to me like the WinCE has got corrupted, hence it going straight to the boot loader. Your best course of action would be to apply one of the firmware updates, which will reflash the CE area. P Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest dan_bs Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 I cant connect to the phone (AS 3.7 refuses to handshake with the SPV now) so how can i apply an update? [sorry for being a clueless moron]...
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 It doesn't need activesync to be 'connected' for updates. It puts AS into a special mode thats recognises the phone in boot loader mode. P Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest dan_bs Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 Can I just run this [Canary_RUUv0.32_CEv1.35.06_ORG_UK_SHIP_no.smartphone.exe] from my desktop then? Previously, running that, the update just fired up, presented the warning dialogs and then seems to hang (d'top == winXP) after asking me to ensure that no disconnection ocurs during the update) p.s. how the hell do you keep that many bhp on the road -- bet you have fun trying. cheers dan
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 From the Canary screen just run the update :) With regards to the Error try rebooting the PC with the phone attached in the Canary screen. I get this a few times (I'm always upgradingdowngrading) and a reboot always seems to fix the problem.

Guest dan_bs Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 still no progress. have reboot-ed pc & re-run update, it asks about overwriting update files on the HD then shows the grey dialog strip ('dont turn your phone off banner') but then sits there seemingly having fallen over or unable to do what it should be... any advice? p.s. the phone doesnt have a sim in it - does that matter? - I just want to unlock the thing to use it on T-m. cheers, dan
Guest Gorskar Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 unlocking the phone is easy - just kill the activesinc process and run SPVunlock while in the 3-colour bootloader screen. you can get SPVunlock from http://www.monolithix.org amoungst other places. (Bootloader version must be 0.98 at most for this to work) If you are still having problems getting your phone going then try the DK1 update (also from monothix.org) I'm fairly sure that contains a full ROM image, so if you can get that on your phone it should work. Failing all that take your SPV into an orange shop and ask nicely if you can restore your ROM from a SD card backup of one of their phones. (If they give you hastle then say your phone screwed up as a result of their update.)
Guest dan_bs Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 thanks all, finally ran the update and then unlocked -- transpired that re-booting PC whilst spv was in canary mode allowed the update to run instead of just hanging. -- I'd love to know why though! :>
Guest StanyDB Posted August 19, 2003 Report Posted August 19, 2003 Should have known this last week. Had a similar problem after upgrading. Couldnt fix it so i decided to bring my Tanager to Smart Phils., will take them 3 weeks to solve it they said!!! :)
Guest TANKERx Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 I'm having trouble performing a hard reset. My SPV was bombed out this morning, so I reflashed and it worked, but some settings were gutted so I wanted to perform a Hard Reset, but when I hold the joystick down for two seconds, all I get is the white screen. It boots fine into the OS, but no Hard Reset.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 Try clicking and holding for a few seconds, then quickly click and hold again for a few seconds. Release and it should let you into the bootloader menu....
