Orange SPV or SPV E100

Hi guys,

At the moment i really need a Windows operated smartphone, not as a gadget but as a bussines tool. The problem is: here in Holland we only have the SPV available. The E100 is only available in a very exclusive package. When I contacted Orange they told me the E100 was in testphase and that it would be introduced as soon as that was over. They just want the SPV to be sold first, of course...

So, WHAT TO DO!!?? I need an SPV (or alike WinOS) within about a week. They probably will introduce the E100 somewhere within a month or 2.

At the moment the SPV is pretty cheap here. For a 1year €40 euro package (a month) you get the phone for free, you get and introduction package for free and you get another free month of €40. They really need their SPV's to be sold :)

But, when the E100 is introduced they will probably bring up the costs and you'll need something like an €80,- package to get the phone free.

Are there any other WinOS out there i might be overlooking? Any advice would be welcome, as i have no experience at all in this sector.

Welcome to the site :)

The SPV and the E-100 are the same phone internally except for the screen (the E-100 is brighter)

so if you want a smartphone cheap and quickly go for the SPV.

Thanks for the fast reply! I got that info as well, but if i understand it correctly the phone has the exact same software and will be able to use the exact same updates as the 'Tanager'. Ow, another thing: the OS will be in dutch, apart from that most of you guys won't understand it, will it result in any problems regarding stuff like updates/programs?

I waited for the E100 in the UK and am very happy. My mate has a SPV and he likes my phone more than his. The other difference is the Key layout is much improved as well as the little jogger thing. I personally would wait for the E100

jackal, i'm sure the e100 is a great update in many ways. But there is a price to pay for that. I'm sure the kind folks of orange will not be so gentle on your wallet when the new e100 comes out. Like the SPV where you had to pay 80 a month to get the phone for free at first, now only 40 euro's with many free stuff included.

Yeah you are correct. I take it you dont have a contract phone at the moment. I had a Samsung T100 on Orange and i simply upgraded. It was £30 to upgrade to the SPV or £120 to upgrade to the E100. I sold my T100 for £90 and then got the E100. Therefor i only paid £30 can you do something like that?

I have an ericsson at the moment with a prepaid package. My plan is to somehow get rid/sell the old ericsson for a couple of bucks and then buy me complete new contract with the spv. As far as i know you have to pay the complete price for the new phone if you want to upgrade. The only purpose for the SPV is business. I want to be able to access some backoffice pages and send regular email, not like the annoying wap services. Ow, and of course the mp3 player, the design, the camera and the whole other list of great stuff is cool as well, but that isn't my main buying reason.

Can you explain what you mean by

"I want to be able to access some backoffice pages "

as depening on what you mean you may need a third party app to do this

nope, that's just one of my company's pages to process orders and stuff. It's in ASP, can the SVP open those pages? The ASP page will generate regular HTML language on the server, so i guess it shouldn't be a problem. Could on of you guys check if the SVP can read asp?

Oh, and by the way: i've just been to a local telecom shop. They told me the E100 would come somewhere at the end of september here in Holland. It will be a bit more expensive than the SPV.

Never heard of an ASP page :?

hopefully someone can test this for you.

Hehe :) ASP stands voor Active Server Page. It's made by microsoft (most of it) and is widely used on the web. This page is constructed in about the same way, but uses PHP (you can see it as the linux version of ASP). If someone with a SVP would like to go to: http://www.electromarkt.nl/svp_test.asp

I've created an ASP test page with 2 lines of text. If you can read them, the ASP is working

Yep I can see

This is an ASP test etc

So works ok :)

niiiice.... You can read "JVC" in bold? That bit comes from one of my company's database and is generated by asp. If you can see that, it means you can read asp-driven websites with your svp... COOL :)

Damn, i finally got everything right. The contract is signed etc, but i got a phone with a scratch on the display. So, back to the local BelCompany. Well, too bad... i have to wait another day for my SPV. But, i have to say, those guys know their service... no questions asked a new SPV.

As for the price of the E100----

If you have nice bills in excess of 50quid a month .... and are due the upgrade, they will offer you a load of s***.

My advice , get the disconnections number off the upgrade team, when you get through tell them you are disconnecting and you will happily go to Vodafone or O2 even though you dont want to lose the exceelent service they provide etc etc ... they will ask you what phone you were actually looking for....

I just told them that I was moving to TALK 400 at 50 a month , and they offered me the E100 for free with 120txts thrown in, and another year of free insurance... it was delivered next day, and I sold the shitty T68i for 50 quid
