Confused as well.... WAP - GPRS

I actually want to acces WAP --- as its free at moment and makes good reading on the toilet at work !!!!

Now how exactly do I access Orange WAP , everytime I am connecting I am getting the little G by the sgnal indicator on my E100....

In Settings / Data Connections what do I set it too .... its really flowery in the manual !!! I know there are additional options in the IE options....

There are 2 ways to access free WAP on Orange from the SPV.

Goto settings - Data Connection and change the WAP connection to either

Orange WAP (to use a data connection on GPRS network)

Orange CSD (to use a data connection on GSM network)

On the Orange network both WAP connections are free.

Make sure you use wsp:// in the WAP address to use the SPV WAP connection as http:// will use the Internet connection (even for accessing WAP sites).

You can force the SPV to only use ONLY the WAP connection by changing the Internet Explorer settings to 'Select Network=WAP network' and unticking 'auto detect settings'

If you have problems accessing certain WAP sites on the SPV then try using the program WebWapSelect.

This is wap:// mate ?? just like you use on all other mob's ....  

Your thinking of http://wap.blah.blah where wap is part of the address.

For the SPV, when using http:// (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol) it will use the Internet connection and when using wsp:// (Wireless Session Protocol) it will use the WAP connection.

WSP is actually part of WAP.

Yes, if you are using GPRS.

Small G= active GPRS connection

Two arrows= Active GSM data connection

There is whole WAP world out there and most of us have hardly touched it.

It is also possible to setup WAP e-mail although its very very limited.

I think wsp://orange.multimedia has some details on this

OK WAP success

I have set IE forced to use WAP Network and Data Connections to Orange WAP and Wap Connection to Orange WAP.... that allows it to do it through GPRS still... is this still free as its accessing WAP through active GPRS....? (the G still showing in corner )

Or am I best using the CSD option , as this is showing me the two arrows, and shows its dialling the old WAP connection I have had on past phones...

I am getting the ORANGE WAP content from the wsp:orange.multimedia

Yep, your OK with that.

Most people get confused because they talk about WAP as being a physical connection when it actually should be considered as software built into the phone.

When using Internet explorer on a PC the Internet connection could relate to ANY physical medium ie landline, cable, satellite, GSM network, etc. The same can be said of the WAP connection.

WAP over GPRS (APN orangewap) is preferred due its always on state. Alternatively WAP over GSM (Orange CSD) uses dedicated timeslot on the GSM network @ 9.6/14.4k. Both WAP connections are free on the Orange network so its OK

On the other hand the SPV's Internet software will use the Internet Connection and this can be set to use GPRS (APN orangeinternet) or a GSM dialup to an ISP. Unfortunately you will be charged for internet browsing.
