Guest matthewjames Posted August 19, 2003 Report Posted August 19, 2003 Hi, Which program would people recommend to convert DVD to AVI/SPV? I've tried a few demo versions of various things with mixed results. I'm unwilling to buy software I'm not totally happy with. If anyone could help I'd be grateful. Thanks Matthew
Guest Palindrome Posted August 19, 2003 Report Posted August 19, 2003 Your best bet is to look over the tutorials below and tweak them so they produce a watchable film on the SPV depending on which SPV program you're using. If you want an MPEG conversion to play on PocketTV (http://www.mpegtv.com/wince/pockettv/) you may need to browse the links below to find out how to do that. You'll get much better quality and a far lower file size if you do a DivX conversion though. If you're using PocketMVP for DivX (http://www.angelfire.com/alt/spv-soft/) then I'd suggest you get DivX, which is the only piece of software you have to pay for (www.divx.com) and follow the steps below: 1. Rip the DVD to your harddrive (http://nickyguides.digital-digest.com/smartrip.htm) or Convert straight from the DVD (http://nickyguides.digital-digest.com/DVDfromCD.htm). 2. Use FlaskMPEG to convert to a DivX AVI (http://nickyguides.digital-digest.com/flaskmpeg.htm). 3. You can resize and crop the picture if you like (http://nickyguides.digital-digest.com/resize-flask.htm). 4. Use VirtualDub (http://www.virtualdub.org/) and ClintEastman's settings (http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=6358) to rotate and resize (if you haven't already resized in step 3). The process can be a little involved and take the better part of a day depending on your computer setup but it's doable. Hope this helps.
Guest matthewjames Posted August 19, 2003 Report Posted August 19, 2003 thanks, I'll have a go at that tonight!
