Guest Pintguinness Posted August 19, 2003 Report Posted August 19, 2003 Anyone else using a Mitac Mio 8380 w/ T-Mobile in the US? I'd like to find out how your phone reception is. I had much better reception w/ T-Mobile and my T-68. I love the Mitac for all of the PDA+ functionality, but I've got to tell you, I'm very very disappointed with the phone. Even with a strong signal indicator, the reception stinks. Unless I'm missing something, I don't think there is anything to configure as far as the phone goes. Anyone?
Guest rockdoc Posted August 19, 2003 Report Posted August 19, 2003 Just comparing with the SE p800 I think the reception on Fido is better (location by location). Normally I am somewhere in TMobile country every month or so (UK, Europe or US) but haven't been with the Mitac yet. One thing I have noted is that the volume is a wee bit more difficult to tweak with the Mitac. I had to turn it way up from its factory settings and then make sure I had the speaker situated over my ear properly...hey this sounds pedantic but it certainly wasn't right away apparent when I started using it. I am definitely happier with the reception on my Mitac out of the box than my SEp800 (although that is running on the second release firmware). The other thing I noticed today is that if your phone ram is full with running applications phone calls get a bit screwed up, so I regularly turn the phone off and on again to cycle out of all running apps. I suspect we will see a firmware upgrade soon that will fix the few problems we "early adopters" are facing...inshallah.
Guest aiwapro Posted August 20, 2003 Report Posted August 20, 2003 I have the Mitac Mio 8380 on T-Mobile in the US, and I have no reception problems. According to the signal indicator, reception is bad one bar of signal has meant a crystal clear call for me. I just don't go by how many bars I have, just if I have any or not. Did you get your MMS set-up to send yet?
Guest seismos Posted November 14, 2003 Report Posted November 14, 2003 I'm having similar trouble with a Mio 8380. I'm on T-Mobile and I live in the Seattle area. Reception isn't bad...the Mio just says it can't complete the call as dialed. About 1 out of every 10 times the call will go through, but gets dropped. Signal meter looks fine, with 4 bars. With the same SIM card I've used Sony Ericsson R520, t610, and P800; Nokia 3650; Qtek 7070; and Motorola MPx200 without any problems. I'm going to borrow my buddy's AT&T SIM card to see if it makes any difference. If it does, I'm jumping ship.
