Time out

in the Home screen there is an option called Time out ... what is this for ?

I think it's a time out function to return the phone to home after making a call or for another reason. I could be wrong on this, but that's what I thought.

Correct you are. When your phone is in an idle state...this is the amount of time til it returns to the homescreen. You have the option to turn this off as well.
