What is the difference between all the models (tanager,spv,qtek, etc)?

HTC 'codename' "Canary" is the original Orange SPV.

HTC 'codename' "Tanager" is the second model released, called spvx, smart amazing phone, qtek 7070, spv e-100 and some other names.

HTC 'codename' Voyager' is the next model to be released.

The Canary has a 'd-pad', the Tanager has a joystick.

The Canary has a slightly lower quality screen than the tanager.

The Tanager has a different keypad with easier to use buttons.

All other differences are cosmetic or upgradeable.

Mitac Mio 8380 is produced by Mitac, and is a clamshell design.

How do I 'open' the phone?

It is possible to open your phone to perform operations like Painting the case or changing the keypads backlight LED's.

Please Note: Dismantling your phone may cause permanent visible damage to the case and/or the phones screen, dismantling your phone may invalidate any warranty/insurance that you have on your phone and should only be undertaken by skilled persons.

Can I paint my phone?

You can, but this will void your warranty, a number of SPV owners have painted their phone cases, you will have to 'open' your phone before painting your case. here are some tips on painting your phone:-

1. Do NOT rush it! At present you can?t get replacement cases.

2. Preparation is the key! Spend some time cleaning you case prior to spraying it; use a very fine sandpaper all over the case to give the paint a 'key' to stick to.

3. A matt paint tends to look better and will not feel sticky to the touch.

4. Suggested Paint = RS Matt black 496-782

5. When spraying your case its better to spray 3-4 fine layers than one thick one.

Can I change the backlight colour of my phones keypad?

Yes, you can change the LED's behind the keypad to a different color, a guide has been written to take you through the process of changing these LED's.

Can I modifiy the Cradle to allow the phone to charge using the usb connector?

Yes, you can modify the internal connections of the cradle to allow the phone to charge from the PC USB connection.

Please Note: This procedure requires you to dismantle your cradle and perform soldering, modifying your cradle in this way may invalidate any warranty/insurance that you have on your phone and should only be undertaken by skilled persons.

My phone is broken, who can fix it?

If you are on a uk orange phone then orange customer support will give you advice on who can repair your phone, insurance you can have, and how to get a replacement. Contact O customer support on 07973 100 150, or 150 from an orange hand set.

Orange uk also provide insurace for £5 a month which covers anything that can happen to the phone.(i.e lost theft damage)

The following information is correct at time of writing:

Currently hayes technology handle warrenty repairs for orange, they also give estimates for damaged spv's/ ** E100's. Contact them on 01295662109. However I would advise contacting orange first.

Hayes will require £17.63 to return your phone if you get an estimate or the phone is unrepairble and its not a warrenty fault. They wont give your phone back if you dont pay.

If your phone cannot be repaired, and you do not have insurance you have two main options:

1. Orange will replace any hand set for £70, with no further commitment in way of insurance

2. Orange will replace your handset for £30 but you will be committed to 12 months at £5 a month.

For the Dutch users:

Go to the Orange shop next to you they help you right away and make a appointment for replacing or repairing.

Can I remove dust from under my phones screen?

Yes , you can remove the dust from under the screen but it requires you to open your phone.
