Hey ben, I just got off the phone with you. If you read this i forgot to mention that about 95% of the people in the modaco forums are from the UK, so if your looking for US cell phone folks you can try http://www.esato.com/board/

I sent you an e-mail, Ben. I am in Rhode Island and would LOVE to help test the phone. I have been waiting for it to be released so I can finally make the jump to Verizon!

I am an IT Manager and am getting ready to deploy Exchange 2003. This would be the perfect opportunity to test the mobile Exchange server syncing capability in the smartphone platform.

Threw my hat in the ring as well! I'm very excited at an opportunity to be rid of T-Mobile GSM for the better reception of CDMA and faster internet with 1xRTT. (Well, at least here in the US). Hopefully the service is with Verizon...but Sprint will do as well.

what is CDMA? i thought the phone companies out here were switching from TDMA to GSM? Whats this CDMA talk. also what is 1xRTT? Faster internet you say? My GPRS is so incredibly slow i already like 1xRTT

CDMA i believe is similar to TDMA, however the powers that be in America have decided to include another new standard over there.

CDMA covers pretty much everywhere other than Europe and Austrolasia.

Oh, and i e-mailed him too. You never know :)

is CDMA better than GSM? CDMA phones wouldnt work in the UK?

I dont know about better....but it's better here in the US as it is an older, more established network. Today...more towers = better service. CDMA currently wins in that category here in the US.

GSM is relatively new over here. It's anyone's guess which standard will win out one day. Apples to Apples...I don't know which I'd choose.

CDMA phones do not use SIM cards. They are programmed directly by the operator. So you can't use any unlocked phone you wish. Only those supported by the service. And Verizon, the largest carrier, doesn't have many cool phones.

That has been my dilemma for some time now here is the US.

CDMA = better reception, crappy phones, less selection, no versatility in switching between phones at will.

GSM = so-so reception, better phones, unlimited selection & versatility.

Maybe that will all change one day.

oh.. I prefer GSM simply because it supports sim cards. also gsm is new here, so the semi-bad reception will only get better. (and for the record i get reception almost everywhere except the obvious dead spots [canyons, fields in the middle of nowhere, etc..])

if i were on TDMA, i wouldnt have been able to use my smartphone the past 7 months! :P

Count me in as well. I'm in Utah but travel to California quite frequently. This would be a LOT of fun. I've e-mailed you about it.

Whole point of the phone is that it is so much more than "just a phone"....
