I am completely new to smartphones, PDA and pocket PC.

I am looking at purchasing smartphone or a Pocket PC / Palm Pilot with phone capability. Quick question about the web browsing capability. Would I be able to visit any website or could I only see WAP enabled websites?

Thanks.

It has full internet http browsing but is limited in that it cannot views frames and certain other conventions. It is http though which rules!

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I should visit a Sprint store or one of the other ones for test driving. :-)

I know i'm biased because i own one but there phones really are the best you can buy! You can watch whole movies on it in either mpeg or divx format, it plays your music, takes pictures and will get u on the internet and msn messenger! Posted from my SmartPhone!

Cool. Thanks for your feedback, too. Which exact model do you have? Which phone plan can you recommend?

Thanks.

Is that a European model only by chance? A google search brought back tons of 'Orange' results.

Its the Orange model :) Try searching for the Tanager, I-Mate, SAP or QTEK 7070.

That worked :-)

msmobiles.com looks promising (on a first glance)

Just to be sure you are clear. Microsoft Smartphones are not available to buy in the US yet. But can be purchased via ebay or the like, and used under T-Mobile, ATT, or CIngular GSM here in the US. Unsupported by the carriers (so far).

I have been using an unlocked Orange SPV here in the US under T-mobile and it's has functioned flawlessly.

Other Types of smartphones, with a lower-case "s" are available. PPC phones, palm phones, etc. All of the US carries offer one kind or another. Including Sprint. The MS Smartphones similar to the SPV will be available soon, I believe.

Since Sprint is a CDMA network...you'd need to wait for them to come out with one before you could use it. I know they have Treos(palm) and PPC phones so they will probably have one one day as they are more "cutting edge" than Verizon as far as phones go.

Thanks. I didn't know that. Would you recommend a smartphone or rather a Treo 300/600 or something like that? I need a way to do email while away from at work as well as some basic. I am running a small business besides my full time job and need access to email and web (minor stuf only) when doing lunch to keep my business afloat.

Palm email is not that good. I would recommend the Smartphone over Palm any day.

I've used Palms for many years.

Then PPCs.

Then the Smartphone.

I am no longer a fan of Palm.

If you need a PDA, a larger screen and touchscreen...go with a PPC-Phone Edition.

If screensize isn't important, but you still want basic PIM apps and many other programs and games in a phone form...the smartphone is the most solid choice.

All I really care about is basic email functionality and some minor web useage if required during the day (trouble tickets, pre-sales requests). I heard Palm needs websites to have WAP. I don't have that and need access to some plain html pages only. I have never really looked at wireless access like this before. Screensize is probably not that important then.

SmartPhone2002 can access full html websites over GPRS and syncronise with and pop3/imap/mail exchange server you happen to use. Sounds like its just what you're after.

you can get one sim free app unlocked, with warrenty and delivered to the USA from www.ppcw.net if you dont fancy trawling ebay.

Isn't it about time that price was lowered? $549 was a good price when the phone was new...but the going rate is much lower now. You'd be better off getting one from ebay. I wouldn't pay more than US$350-$400 for and e100...TOPS...and you get the camera attachment with it.
