Guest midnightman Posted August 23, 2003 Report Posted August 23, 2003 Hi! i know it says for example,128 m, but just how much could i truly use that 128 mb? could i save mpeg clips on my SD/MMC card? i'm planning to buy one but don't have enough money, just would like to know if it could save my ringtones, mpeg clips, screensavers, or even programs. that's why i'm asking, if it could store mpeg clips how many could it store? i know the answer would be it depends, but just an estimate is what i need thanks for the help guys! :)
Guest spv_dman Posted August 23, 2003 Report Posted August 23, 2003 If you are an extensive user, surely you'll need a mm/sd card sooner or later. Yes you can store movie files/ringtones/programs, you name it. However for such cases as ringtones, you need other applications/do some tweaks to play files stored in your card. By default it points to IPSM or your phone built in storage. You also need to re-encode your movie files to make it work on smartphone. I've tried to do this using applications such as Windows movie maker (converts mpeg to wmv playable via smartphone media player). Or convert to avi format, pocketpc standard, using Dr. DivX or virtualdub. You'll be surprised firstime you check out space available on an "empty" card. It will be "understated". My case a 256 sd card became only 241. This is because the "missing" 15mb was used as filesystem storage whatever that means ;) To give you an idea of storage capacity, mp3s (standard, 128kbps) for example, assuming 1 file = 4 mb, can store around 30 files. An music video encoded 100kbps video, 128kbps audio bitrate will yield the same storage result :)
Guest rodnav Posted August 23, 2003 Report Posted August 23, 2003 FYI, for a 512 SD card, the available free space is 490.3 mb. if you really want a cheap expansion card, it would be advisable to search the local auction sites. they sometimes have great bargains. i got my 512 mb Hagiwara card for only 7000 pesos, this is 2 months used and it has no warranty. but i canvassed the brand new ones and they cost 17700 pesos in megamall. i think i came out on top when i got it.
Guest spv_dman Posted August 23, 2003 Report Posted August 23, 2003 I got mine from a friend, Apacer 256mb sdcard b'new, costs 3,500. Have been using it for the past 2 months, completely satisfied and no problem so far. Is Apacer one of the better brands or never heard ito? Maybe I'll also acquire a 512mb card soon :)
