I want to connect to internet on laptop through smartphone

I want to connect to internet on laptop through smartphone, but don't know how.

The laptop doesn't recognize my smartphone as a modem through the infrared port and I don't know how to make a modem over IRDP (?? or something) connection. How can I use the internet through my phone?

I've got Windows 2000 professional on it..

Yeah, you mean IrDA.

I'm using Windows XP, which has automatically set up the SPV as a modem having synchronized with ActiveSync over Infrared.
