Not only is it tedious but the sound is low. Is this a known problem?

Easier way than what? Pressing and holding the Green send key whilst in-call? Seems easy enough to me :)

Don't forget to use the volume keys whilst in-call too. I've never had a problem with the volume not being loud enough.
