Can anybody help me please. After purchasing an SPV all was going

well until I plugged in the headphones. The phone automatically

changed the profile to the "headset" profile but now I can't get it

back to "normal" profile ( or any other for that matter ). I've done

Programs > Settings > Profiles, but I can't change it from head set.

This has really p***ed me off - any ideas

if you do a search on the site you will probably find a number of threads relating to this problem - some have suggested blowing into the ear phone socket or wiggling the headphone jack when its in the phone - sorry I can't be more help.

Yeah, this is a known fault. There are two possible causes. The most common is that the tiny switch that detects the presence of the headphones has got stuck in the "present" position. You can resolve this (sometimes) simply by wiggling the headphones about - but be careful, I managed to snap the end off the plug, and get it stuck in by doing this. This is the second possible cause: that the end of the plug has got stuck in.

Basically, you're going to need to get your phone fixed. All SPVs are currently under warranty, so you won't need a receipt. If you've got Orange Care, that's simple, phone them. If not, you'll need to phone Hays on 01295662109. They'll send you a Royal Mail Special Delivery envelope to send it to them in, and they'll fix your phone for free under warranty. If it's the second cause, I'd check with them first if it's covered, because it wasn't on mine, and there's a charge of £17.63 to have it back unrepaired, or £56.75 to fix the problem.

My headphone socket got stuck last night, phoned Orange and an engineer will call me back in 24 or 48 hours, they have'nt got this listed as a problem ! !,[you've all been chatting about it for months] anyway, the only fix on mine was:-

Put the jack in three quarters of the way and wiggle it GENTLY downwards, having been in the audio trade in my youth I know how fragile these sockets and jacks are and I had to give it more welly than I liked, BUT it worked, Thanks.

Ornge DO know about it as they have changed enough SPVs over it.

What normally happens is that you can fix this but it will be only

temporary, if you continue to use the headphones this can become

perminant :)

I tried the wiggle method, but it turned out to be a software error, a reinstall of the ROM cured the prob, mind you it then needed re decertify and sim unlock.

If you reinstall a ROM i.e. run an update, you do not need to SIM unlock

again unless you are using the SMART network's update, as updates do

not re-lock the SIM.

This just isn't true. I have the same problem with my phone - have just called Hays and because I bought the phone via eBay I don't have what they consider to be a valid proof of purchase, and they will not fix it without me paying £56.75.

Well, that must be because since October or whenever the SPV came out the year before, all SPVs are no longer necessarily within warranty anymore (I did post that in August!).
