Guest shisho Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 Greetings all, i just want to know if there is a way to make the backlight always OFF, is it possible or not and how?? :?: Best Regards ShiSho 8)
Guest dinoalbert Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 the least that you can do is go to Programs-->Settings-->Power Management...then set Backlight Timeout to at least 5 seconds
Guest shisho Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 i know that , but the problem is that i want it to be off always because i try to clean the screen , then the plastic cover for the TFT becomes white when the back light is on, so when the back light is off i can read the screen easily ..!
Guest victor_zhu Posted October 10, 2003 Report Posted October 10, 2003 I also wonder how can we turn off the back light Maybe by editing the registry?
Guest midnight Posted October 10, 2003 Report Posted October 10, 2003 best you can do is to edit the registry: HKCUControlPanelBacklightBatteryTimeout and set the value to 0 it will flash the screen if a key is pressed, but should go out pretty much instantly
Guest LarsDK Posted October 10, 2003 Report Posted October 10, 2003 How about a tweak that during daytime you could activate it so the screen doesnt turn on, and reactivate it when its getting darker. Sometimes when I am outside in daylight I dont need the light its waste of batterytime. Also when it is very dark it could be nice to have the option to only use the dimed light, it can be much too bright in a dark eviroment... Is any of this possible?
Guest midnight Posted October 10, 2003 Report Posted October 10, 2003 dimmed light, no, not possible, cos that is all automatic (dims half way through the length of the backlight timeout) and a program would have to be written to change the reg entries on keypress or time of day for any of the rest of your recommendations ;)
Guest muff Posted October 11, 2003 Report Posted October 11, 2003 I have considered writing a program to do exactly this - except I was thinking of it as game mode and normal mode ;) you dont want the light to turn off mid game, but want it set to low amounts the rest of the time in order to save the battery maybe I'll knock up a little program this weekend :D
Guest midnight Posted October 11, 2003 Report Posted October 11, 2003 good idea ;) customisable would be great so you can manually set the timeout time from 0-whatever, maybe quick launch from record button? (time is in 100th's of a sec in the reg entries, but i guess you know that already :D)
Guest midnight Posted October 11, 2003 Report Posted October 11, 2003 muff, dont forget, you could actually make the games set the reg to not timeout and set back to previous setting when you exit ;)
Guest muff Posted October 11, 2003 Report Posted October 11, 2003 ;) my intention is to create both a stand alone app, and include the code into our games that way it can benefit all users, not just those playing our games :D
Guest midnight Posted October 11, 2003 Report Posted October 11, 2003 indeed ;) its a great idea would be cool if it was a homescreen plugin actually, but we know how hard they are to write :D
Guest fraser Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 Did anything come of this...? I just came across this topic mentioning a system for games, after posting in this and this other thread. Basically, all these are crying out for the same thing...more control over the backlight. How about a very small daemon app that runs on the phone. You can choose what backlight time to use under what conditions, such as when on a car/desk cradle, or between certain hours etc. You could also flash the display when there is an message on the phone. Also, you could link it to the connected PCs monitor power-saver. Games could also make use of it, by somehow notifying the app to keep the light on, then deactivating it when exiting. Lot's of possibilites. Anyone feel like stepping up to the challenge?
Guest midnight Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 its already being made, as mentioned by muff :) (i happen to know he did a first version that worked as either permanently on, or permanently off, i beleive he's making an options screen so you can set the times yourself, so you could toggle between 5 seconds and 5 minutes if you'd like)
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 Pretty neat lil' app he's got going here. Is he designing it to run on the E-200 too? Battery life is quoted as 3 days for it and possibly with an app like that - almost 4 ? SpaceCowboy
Guest midnight Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 it should work on e200, no reason why it shouldnt :)
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 Good news all round in that case. Battery life has always been a problem for us. My phones in its pod everynight and this app will just help it that bit more. The 1.6 update - im guessing battery life will once again be improved? SpaceCowboy
Guest midnight Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 seems to be :) if you wanna save battery at night, but cant charge it, simply turn the radio off, just remember to switch it back on again in the morning
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 Lol, yeh, used to do it now and again then wondered why I wasnt getting any calls the next day :)
Guest fraser Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 its already being made, as mentioned by muff Cool, that's good that he's still thinking about it. I hope he takes on board my suggestion about having different settings for different profiles!!
Guest Falstaf Posted January 6, 2004 Report Posted January 6, 2004 One starts to wonder how muff's little hack is coming along... we wants it! :)
