Guest mantrac Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 If you dial a number that's busy and then try to redial that number by pressing the Call button twice (even with a long interval between the two presses) the phone will feedack as soon as the call initiates. If you've placed your ear near the SPV's speaker (most likely), then you'll be temporarily deafened by an extremely high-pitched noise! The repeated occurence of this problem can SEVERELY damage one's hearing PERMANENTLY. This bug is 100% repeatable even after reboots. I have written a legal letter and will post it to Orange and HTC. I will ask for an immediate fix of the bug or a recall of every single SPV device they have ever sold. Ignoring this would contravene with EU and UK safety regulations.
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 Yikes, no messing about with you Mantrac !! This is really quite serious - keep us up to date with your enquiries. SpaceCowboy
Guest mashkhan Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 No Win - No Fee here I come
Guest Crispy Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 Wow! ... Thats serious stuff there! ... Lets hope its fixed in the next rom version ... if not, then what? Legal action? Refunds? ... I don't even want to think that far!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 Anyone actually deaf yet?
Guest kyrkesmith Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 Is this really an issue with every single SPV, or just mantrac's? Also, does it affect E100s too? If not, then it's probably fixed in the next ROM, as the E100 has a newer version. I've got an E100, but can't try it out, because I can't find anyone who has an engaged tone, usually it's BT answer or some other voicemail thing.
Guest mantrac Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 I've had two SPVs and checked it with a friend's too and it occurs every single time. I haven't tried it with the E100 so can't tell. It happens only if the phone is engaged. To test it, just lift your landline receiver off the hook and call your landline number (that's if you haven't got a BT voicemail or other such service). Alternatively, try calling this number which is always engaged: (020) 7853 2828 (in the UK - it's my bank's branch number)
Guest kyrkesmith Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 Couldn't try my landline - I've got BT Answer. However, tried your bank, and sure enough it was engaged! Hung up, then rang again using green button. No problem for my on my E100. Did I try it right? If so, then it looks like it's been fixed. Any other E100 owners?
Guest idavid Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 tried with my spv. called your bank (its s*** BTW) and got an engaged tone. hung up by pressing end call button, then pressed call button twice. no loud tone just the engaged tone again. is this the same method you are using?
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 Holly hell some woman answered !! Tried it twice before that - didn't manage to get the tone ? SpaceCowboy
Guest mantrac Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 Oh yes.... Lovely Barclays Bank that is... "spacecowboy6982", I'd suggest you play lottery today!! With your luck of getting through, you've got all the odds on your side!! Now, as far as the bug is concerned, it only occurs if you try redialling by letting the phone hang up itself (which happens after a second or two when it gets an engaged tone). I think that it's fine if you press the hangup button yourself before redialling. Also, the engaged tone I am getting is the one that's built into the phone (US tone)... This is getting more and more mysterious.
Guest kyrkesmith Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 Are you running the latest available ROM for the SPV?
Guest mvsmith07 Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 Tried this with my E100 by taking my direct dial work phone off the hook and dialling that number. The engaged tone rang so let the E100 timeout and end the call itself. Dialled again by pressing the green dial button twice and no problem. Just heard the engaged signal again. Assume this might only be a problem in the SPV and the new ROM in the E100 has the problem corrected.
Guest oli_wal Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 Just tried it now... It was engaged :) Didn't get any feeback myself. It wasn't the 3rd time I tried it ;) Although I can't get it to happen again I'm sure it did happen to me a couple of days ago! Frightened the life out of me. Can't remember what I was doing at the time mind but quite possibly whilst doing this...
Guest mantrac Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 My ROM is version 1.3.5.6 I haven't applied the keyboard update cause there's no point unless you have a keyboard. When you say you get an engaged tone, does it sound like an English engaged tone or a US one?
Guest kyrkesmith Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 What's the difference between a US and UK engaged tone?
Guest morpheus2702 Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 Pardon? (Sorry, just had to be said).
Guest blewer Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 Let's all club together and get free upgrades :)
Guest ClintEastman Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 Anyone actually deaf yet? Someone beat me to it! :)
Guest davidhorn Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 Hmm, to get it to do the bug you have to do the following button sequence exactly: (don't push anything else between the two calls) Dial engaged number Wait for engaged tone. Wait a few seconds, then push Green twice. He's right, it bloody hurts if you have your ear next to it. For testing purposes I had the phone up to my ear - it's not so much the feedback screech it's the "POP" at the start that hurts. My ear's still buzzing.
Guest xanadu Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 Could someone speak up please, as I can't hear what anyone is saying here !!
