Guest seb06 Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 I will live in London on the 25 September for 14 month. I will want to bye a spv 100 or some thing better for my girl friends and a bluetooth phone for me because I have an ipaq 2210. Were I can bye a smart phone in London, which one company is better to an other one? And what do you think about the umts is it work well? If you have some good English link for the pocket pc because I want to know the pda party who happen in this city think you for all information
Guest kyrkesmith Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 The SPV E100 is the only Microsoft Smartphone available in Britain, and it is only available on the Orange network. It is only available in the shops on contract, with a minumum term of 12 months. The Orange Shop is the place where you'll most likely find one, though The Link sometimes sell them. The SPV does not have Bluetooth, but there are plenty of phones that do. The Carphone Warehouse, The Link, and Phones 4U are the major retailers, but The Orange Shop provide the best service in my opinion, but only sell phones on the Orange network. UMTS is only available on a network called 3 at the moment, and probably won't be available on other networks for at least a year. User feedback for 3 is not good, and it's probably best to avoid them. However, you can sometimes get excellent deals, even on the Pay as You Go tariffs. If you're talking about accessories for your Pocket PC, I find that expansys.co.uk are the best place to get them. There aren't really any dedicated PDA shops, but most electronics shops have a limited range available.
Guest seb06 Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 for me i will probabely bye a sony ericson t610 (for the bluetooth)whith a contract and i will olso take a contract for the phone of my girl friend if i want to bye a spv it's only in a orange shop like in my country but if i want to bye a mitac or motorola smartphone i can't bye this in other compagnye. about the pocket i speak about good site who speak about news for know pda party who happend in London like this one MoDaCo Summer Event 2003 - 30th August 2003. and for finish i want to take fast network connection (dsl) whith one provider i can take (one who is good vallue for money) think you for all your answer
Guest kyrkesmith Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 Orange are quite a good bet to go with, and they'll match the tariff of any other network if you want, known as "Orange Value Promise". The Mitac isn't yet available here, and I'm not aware of the Motorola being availble anywhere yet. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any forum as good as this one for Pocket PC. There is http://www.pdagold.com/forums/, and the forums at PDA street, though American, are very comprehensive. However, I'm not aware (an I'm an iPaq owner myself) of any forum arranging meetings etc like MoDaCo. For ADSL, the cheapest is FairBroadband, at £19 per month. I use them, and they are generally OK. Most other DSL providers come in at around £25 to £30 per month.
Guest seb06 Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 think you for all good information you are very nice
Guest Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 For UK ADSL its also worth looking at http://www.adslguide.org.uk/ or http://www.net4nowt.co.uk/ for listings of companies.
Guest seb06 Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 if i xant to paye only 19 £ a month a need to bye a modem myself ? for good ring skink and programme ayou can have a see on this french site http://www.smartphony.org/geeklog/public_h...ewcat.php?cid=7
Guest kyrkesmith Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 Yeah. They'll sell you one, but I think they rip you off a bit. I know your iPaq doesn't have WiFi, but you could get a CF card to go in it. You could then get something like the Netgear MR814 which acts as a DSL modem, and makes the internet connection available across 802.11b to your iPaq.
Guest seb06 Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 i willprobabely order a wifi modem from usa it's much sheper over there do you avec free wifi connection in london?
Guest kyrkesmith Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 I assume you're chatting about "WiFi hotspots", public places where there is a WiFi node available for public use. Yes, we do have a few, in Cafés and places. Often though, they'll want you to pay to use them.I assume you're chatting about "WiFi hotspots", public places where there is a WiFi node available for public use. Guest seb06 Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 exactly i speak about hotspot in fench we have acces in bar and train stations airport and we have to pay expensi something like 15 euros for one h but there is some personne who open there wifi acces in paris and we can internet for free.
Guest kyrkesmith Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 Well, the range of WiFi ain't great, and there are definately people who have open nodes, either deliberately or by mistake, but where they are, I'm not sure. Some are signposted, some aren't.
