Using SPV as IR modem

Please can someone help!

I have configured my Laptop ( WinXP ) and SPV no probs, and using the dial no "*99#". can connect to the remote computer, it then says 'verifying username and password' and then the connection fails. What am I supposed to enter in these fields? I tried 'orange' for username, and 'multimedia' for password but to no avail.

I also tried connecting through 07973100500 using these fields but then I'm told that the computers cannot agree PPP

Help would be very appreciated

Thanks

:)

The username and password fields do not need anything in them, have you tried with without them in?

Tried that initially, but when connecting a message apprears saying -verifying username and password - after about 10 secs it then disconnects :x

Is the modem configured correctly on XP? This sounds like what happens when the extra settings have been missed from the modem configuration.

Under Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Phone and Modem options select the IR modem (the SPV will need to be connected to the PC as an IR modem to do this), click on Properties and when the properties window opens click on advanced. There is an extra initialization commands box which needs to contain the following.

AT+cgdcont=1,"IP","orangeinternet","",0,0

Apologies if you already have this but the problem does sound very like what happens if this setting has been missed out. If you are on another network there is another discussion somewhere containting alternative settings to enter into this box.

I had missed of the first bit - AT - I can get it to connect to 07973100500 now - great! However I'm probably being really thick....but how do I browse the web now? I tried opening IE but nada!

And it still won't connect using the "*99#". number

Thanks for your help with this!

Just tried again, after sayung verifying username and password it comes up with Error 721: the remote computer did not respond, also not getting the two way arrows in the signal bar as I do when using the 07973 number - am I supposed to?

:? :x

Yes you should still get the two way arrows when it has connected. Try it again you may just have been unlucky. I'm a relative newbie myself, can anyone think of anything else?

One last question - oh no you say !

Is there any way I can pick up my AOL e-mail via this SPV connection? Orange told me that the servers or something weren't compatible?!
