Guest Wika Posted August 30, 2003 Report Posted August 30, 2003 I'm seriously thinking of buying an E100 Smartphone, but no I noticed that the "SPV2" will be released Q4 2003... What should you guys (and girls) do ? Wait or buy? What are the advantages of the SPV2? -Bluetooth -Integrated camera -Windows Mobile 2003 But does is has: Same screen? Faster cpu?
Guest kyrkesmith Posted August 30, 2003 Report Posted August 30, 2003 At the moment the SPV2 (though I doubt it will be called that on release) has the same CPU. I'd have thought the screen won't be much different - it's a great screen though. I wouldn't bet on it being out this year, and if I were you, I'd just buy the E100 now, and possibly upgrade to the SPV2 when you can.
Guest zeta101 Posted August 30, 2003 Report Posted August 30, 2003 Have a look at this recent thread: http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php...9751&highlight= a guy named msmobiles posted that it has a slow processor, like the one on the original spv, but no one seemed to be bothered (strange i though) im waiting for more people to post and see if its true. My thoughts are: * Intergrated camara = good * Bluetooth = i personally wouldnt use it so i dont care ;) * If it has a slow processor then its definatly a NO for this phone. * Windows Smartphone 2003 = nice but i dont expect there to be monumental differences with 2002, and anyway its very possible the SPV and E100 people will be able to get the 2003 ROM for thier phones anyway. * from the photos the guy posted i dont like the look of the softkeys (the top 2 keys for picking menus) and the joystick, i like the the E100 better :) I'd keep an eye on the thread i mentioned for a few days then make up your mind mate bye

I've heard from Orange customer services (who generally know no more than you or I do) that September/October launch is likely. For my money: * Integrated camers = pointless (poor resolution, naff images, not worth the weight it adds IMHO) * Bluetooth = I wouldn't use it, because I have other IrDA devices, but Bluetooth is quite nice for wireless syncing whenever you get in range of your PC. * Windows 2003 = I wouldn't have it until Windows 2004 is out. Never get the newest version of MS software - let somebody else debug it, and get it yourself when it stable.
Guest morpheus2702 Posted August 30, 2003 Report Posted August 30, 2003 Just ask yourself how long you are willing to wait and how much you want to pay? It will probably be a December release and £199 to start with.
Guest kyrkesmith Posted August 30, 2003 Report Posted August 30, 2003 I'd say get an SPV E100 now. You may well get an upgrade to Smartphone 2003, and by the time your contract expires this time next year, you'll probably be able to get an SPV2 as an upgrade for free. If, however, you're looking at buying your phone offline and sticking a PAYG chip in it, get an E100 now, as the SPV2 will take a while to filter onto eBay etc, and will be incredibly expensive at first.
Guest Wika Posted August 31, 2003 Report Posted August 31, 2003 Thanks 4 replies guys! Good now i'm offererd 2 options: Normal SPV for € 0 with a free 32 meg SD-card SPV e-100 for € 120 with no SD-card Now its even worse to choose which package i have to take... What would you do?
Guest morpheus2702 Posted August 31, 2003 Report Posted August 31, 2003 That is a lousy deal you are getting on the E-100... are you buying on contract? If you are a heavy texter, don't even consider the SPV unless you want corrective surgery in a few months. Don't get too concerned about the SD card - 32Mb is not a lot of use, and you should be able to pick up a 256Mb at a good price on line.
Guest amo Posted August 31, 2003 Report Posted August 31, 2003 * Windows Smartphone 2003 = nice but i dont expect there to be monumental differences with 2002, and anyway its very possible the SPV and E100 people will be able to get the 2003 ROM for thier phones anyway. There mightn't be too many significant changes from the user interface side of the newer operating system but it actually opens up a world of extra possibilities! It allows a more diverse range of developers to program applications (and games etc) for the phone and I personally would be willing to upgrade just because of this. I dont care too much for the bluetooth at the moment, but am sure it will become a nescessity for me in the future, and the idea of an integrated camera isn't too important as I have plenty of other camera phones and cameras alike - but the opportunity to be able to run the windows mobile 03 platform and develop for it, is for me the usp of the phone.
Guest Wika Posted August 31, 2003 Report Posted August 31, 2003 In Holland the E100 was introduced a couple of weeks ago. With a 40euro, 1yr contract you can buy it for 179.95 euro but i get 50 euro off because i know someone who works at Orange Netherlands. SO the price will be 129.95 (89euro) and is nice i think, aint it... What are the UK-prices? And indeed i also think that there wont be significant differences between Windows Mobile 2002 and 2003, so i have made my choice and will buy the Orange SPV E100 next week... Thank y'all for helping me!!!! How the Orange Free 40 euro plan works in Holland: Every month you'll have to pay 40 euro's... This total amount of 40 euro's you can use for calls to Orange and "house-phones"(10 eurocents a minute), non-Orange (20 eurocents a minute), Short Messages (22 eurocents a message) and GPRS and WAP-traffic... It works like pay as you go, but with a contract...
