Guest schadow1 Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 Is there such as thing for SAPs to autoerase old entries in the Calendar after a specified timeframe? My phone prior to SAP is a Nokia 7110 that erases old entries to a time you manually set. Thanks!
Guest ppcsurfr Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 I think this is why they give you ActiveSync and Oultook on the CD. These two desktop applications complete the system. Pocket PCs and Smartphones are designed to be an integral part of one's PC system. It is therefore through this that some of the Windows powered mobile device's features are utilized. If you want to maximize your SAP's features, I suggest that you install the necessary components so that you may be able to access these other features as well. In ActiveSync, you can specify the length of time your calendar entries will remain visible in the Smartphone, this can be adjusted via the desktop version of ActiveSync. Similarly, you can also add or use different categories in the calendar with the help of ActiveSync and Outlook. An example is the entry of Philippine Holidays in the calendar. If you configure your desktop PC's Outlook to reflect our local holidays, it will also be reflected into the Smartphone calendar. This also applies to Contacts. You can choose either to synchronize all contacts or specify which contacts to synchronize. Once set, you can then have Outlook reflect all your past appointments while in the Smartphone, only a specified period is shown. Also, you can set your desktop Outlook to archive old data which means you still keep a record of everything in a nice safe place. In the Pocket PC there is such an app, for those who don't synchronize with their PPCs with the desktop PC... but personally, I don't see a need for it... on the PPC or the Smartphone... Outlook takes care of it for me... and if I do need to recall an appointment, it is quite easy... Why you might ask do I stick with the Outlook-ActiveSync-Sartphone combination? Simple... I store notes in my calendar entries... notes I feel are very important. Here I usually store the person's contact number and name... who ever I'm meeting and what the person does, or what we've discussed about... Mabuhay! ~ Carlo
Guest schadow1 Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 Thanks carlo. I know about the settings in ActiveSync. Though I'm not sure if it only synchronizes messages set for the specified past item duration and not autoerasing those that are already sync'd inside the phone. Does it?
Guest ppcsurfr Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 Thanks carlo. I know about the settings in ActiveSync. Though I'm not sure if it only synchronizes messages set for the specified past item duration and not autoerasing those that are already sync'd inside the phone. Does it? ActiveSync is designed to minimize memory usage on any Windows powered device... which includes the Smartphone. This means if you set your ActiveSync to synchronize only the past two weeks and all future appointments, it will do so and automatically clear any appointments on your Smartphone that goes beyond 2 weeks. The advantage to this is that your desktop PC still has it in its database... which is your *.pst file. This works well for referrence. Check it out and you will notice that the old appointments that are beyond the specified 2 weeks will no longer show on your Smartphone. You can adjust this through ActiveSync. You can also set categories and should you want to synchronize categorized items, you may also do so. I'm not too much of a fan of the cleanup utility they came up with for the PPC awhile back... it seemed pointless since ActiveSync does it anyway. Mabuhay! ~ Carlo

Guest roncom Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 Carlo, For some reason, my old calendar entries doesn't go away. I've set my activesync to 2 past weeks, yet, whenever i sync, my old entries are still there. Do I have to configure something in my outlook (desktop)? I still want to retain my old entries in my desktop - but not on my phone. Help please. Thanks. roncom

After which try to synchronize it again with your desktop PC. Make sure that you're setting up the right profile too... sometimes people forget that they've created a new partnership in addition to the older one and they end up adjustign the older one and not the new one... Let me know how it goes... also you can try doing this while the SAP is connected to the PC after the initial synch you will be able to access the settings again... see if this helps.
