WAP Sites and WAP Connections - How to?

Having set up connections for internet and WAP network (on German E-Plus Network) I'm wondering what connection will be used by internet explorer on which events or URL. Is it really important to have both connections? Can't WAP servers be accessed via internet (and internet connection) anyway?

Can someone tell my, why www.google.com/wml is working while wap.ebay.de don't (which does with my former "dumbphone")? For any reasons the WAP access is not working correctly.
