Guest jmjarvis Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 I've just called Orange to find out if I can use GPRS from my E100 whilst visiting family and friends in Hungary in a couple of weeks. The answer - NO  Seems that the 3 partners that Orange have to provide coverage for them in Hungary don't have an agreement for GPRS. So I'm going to throw this one out there as I know we have a lot of travellers who take their trusty SPV's with them and I'm hoping that someone has been there recently  Does anyone know if this is something as simple as me purchasing a pay-as-you-go SIM for GPRS access ignoring the E100 being locked to Orange  :?: Its amazing just how attached I've become to using the E100 with GPRS. The thought of having it with me but without GPRS access is like taking away my network card from my laptop. Is it similar in other countries :?: What solutions to this did you find :?: Thanks
Guest jmjarvis Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 Sorted. Just called Vodafone UK as Vodafone is big in Hungary. They tell me that I can get a UK vodafone SIM card, get GPRS provisions added to it and then Bob's your Aunty 8) I can even purchase International Top Up cards in Hungary from Vodafone 8) Orange Orange Orange Still interested to hear if this is similar in other European countries though
Guest DiGiTaL iNSaNiTY Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 Strange you should say that, When i was in Prague at the beginning of the year, Orange told me that Prague had no GPRS infrastructure in place, so i couldn't use GPRS to send MMS back home :) After being in Prague for a day i found a phone shop where i noticed them selling nokia's with GPRS and advertising Picture Messinging ? I think what Orange mean is that because they don't have relations with the network providers in a said country, that country doesn't have the said service.. I found exactly the same problem in greece too. Come on Orange, make some Europeen friends !!!!
Guest morpheus2702 Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 Orange spokesman would only say "hello arse... hello elbow"
Guest idoru Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 Just to let you know that I have been using unlimited GPRS while I was visiting Ireland. I have made 7 trips in the last 6 months and I have never got charged for using the GPRS :) The carrier is EIRCELL, if anyone is interested.
Guest idavid Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 i am off to france on saturday. phoned up to check GPRS charges... £10/mb! bloody insane. not sure if i am even going to take my phone with me. that price is completely nuts! btw. does anyone know of a dail-up provider i could use both in the uk and from abroad, with my laptop and a phone line, thats vaguely simple to use and cheapish? ta.
