Guest batute Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 I'm working on a hardware for the tanger which will alow me to use it on my car as a true car kit. This will be a true car kit with the profile automatically switches to car when the phone is plugged into it and it will charge the phone at the same time. Currently it is still under development and have tested the MP3 playing capabilites of this phone when connected to my home theater system. Problem encountered includes no muting capability for the car stereo. The phone's hardware does not provide any control what so ever for this, probably some software and a bit of hardware will cicumvent this limitation. The work are still a bit jumbled as can be seen on the pix (taken by my smartphone) I'm still on the prototype testing part.IMAGE_00012.jpgIMAGE_00012.jpg
Guest grifter Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 wow breadboard! haven't seen one of those since my college days. :)

Guest batute Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 hehehe...not really a solderless one, but can still be called a breadboard. Got the concept working now....All I have to do is to finalyze the design and make look pleasing and easy to install.
Guest grifter Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 how/where did you get the info on the pinouts?
Guest Will Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 are you getting a clear/any input on the mic, if so can you post the details of how you've capacitatively coupled the mic in. (and what make/model of mic) Will
Guest grifter Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 @batute, after finishing the car kit, can you come up with a stand-alone spare battery charger for rodnav? :)
Guest Geeklord Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 I know a guy who claims he's re-wired a tape adaptor that connects to the bottom of the SAP. It works pretty much like the ones formerly used for portable CD-players so you can play cds on (old) car stereos without built-in CD players. He "claims" that you can use the SAP's mp3 playlist. and when a call comes in, everything else is muted and you get your call in full stereo (or how great your car speaker system is). From what I've gathered, he'll do you the service for around PhP 5,000. Again, these are all claims that I haven't had the priviledge of seeing (and believing).
Guest dinoalbert Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 hey thats nice! I have also tried using the tape adaptor with my SAP just by using a 2.5-3.5 mm jack converter but I didnt know if calls can also be heard from the car stereo...well its possible but what about the mic function? pwede rin siguro yung speakerphone function...but 5,ooo?
Guest grifter Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 5,000 is too much for a "science project"
Guest batute Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 5,000 bucks?!! too much for a cassette adaptor. The one I'm making was from the ground up and charges the phone at the same time.... A nokia car kit for the 6210 cost USD175, but it is branded and looks very nice and have the works. I'll finish up the design this week end and try to install it on my car after wards. Will send more photos as I go along.
Guest arcane-power Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 Good Luck man... as Rob Schneider (movie: Waterboy)would say... "You can do it!!!"
Guest arcane-power Posted September 6, 2003 Report Posted September 6, 2003 i have all the icons for W3 TFT... lol...
Guest batute Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 Tadaaahhh.....finally got the crap working yesterday!!!! Problems encountered: 1. RFI when calling - easilly solved :) 2. Alternator whine - can also be solved next weekend Got most of the subsystems working, the phone charges when connected and made my first call. Works great!! I connected to my car sound system and the sound was not as expected. The SPV I think needs some wave shaping on the audio out. I'll work on that afterwards.
Guest grifter Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 that's great! keep us updated on your progress. maybe you could release the schematic diagrams if you finalize the design. hehe...
Guest binky_p Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 can that work on all car type?...i mean model 90 and up?... keep us posted, i think it's a great "invention".. wala naman cgurong patent yan..
Guest rodnav Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 @batute, after finishing the car kit, can you come up with a stand-alone spare battery charger for rodnav? :) thanks grift. @batute nice idea for a car kit. hope you can make it works and well.
Guest batute Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 binky Yup will work on any car/make/model as long the vehicle works on 12V positive ground.
Guest fraser Posted September 22, 2003 Report Posted September 22, 2003 Geeklord, I suspect the mute capability you mentioned in your post isn't to do with muting the stereo. It follows right after playing a playlist on your phone, and the phones media player already mutes when a call is made, so that's all it'll be. Won't mute radio/cd/cassettee on an existing system, as any full car kit should do. I wonder if my in-dash mp3 player in the car lets you pause instead of mute, that would be cool.
Guest neo168 Posted September 22, 2003 Report Posted September 22, 2003 nice creation... a little more fine tuning and it will be perfect.
Guest batute Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 Finally got the project all in one piece. Have to let go of the charging feature because of some thermal problems. I might got into switch mode power supply to get rid of the thermal issues. A PCB design is at the works. Next thing to look for will be good craddle for the SPV. Below are some of the pics for the working prototype, the craddle that can be seen on the dash is a for my Nokia 6210 car kit. I'm looking for a craddle similar to that for the SPV. The project measures 2.5" by 3.5" and most of the materials are sourced locally.project.jpginternal.jpgboxed.jpgboard.jpgcradle.jpg
