Installed the imate rom on my Orange SPV Canary a few days ago and was extremely happy with it....that is until this morning when i switched on my phone. (it was in the cradle with PC off and mains on)

It started doing the initial config routine that happens when you freshly install the rom.

It completed this routine, then reset the phone.

When I went back in, all my apps were still there, but all my icons had been rearranged and all settings had been returned to defaults, including the GPRS settings. Had to re-enter them again

Anybody have this happen to them or know why it may have occurred?

That is a feature of most latest ROM updates, I think that is purposely done to make sure a hard reset is done to make the new update run smoothly, make it a practice to backup your IPSM then you will not have any problem :)

Yes, that's fair enough, do it the first time after installing the ROM to make sure all settings are set correctly, however, once the phone is configured WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO RESET the current config?

This should only happen on installation of a new ROM not as you say a few days later.

Sounds like the update never completed properly in the first place.

I have updated to the Eurotel Rom which is fantastic but it does not save any of my settings in the registry (Well a few only) it seems every time i turn off the phone i get the keyclicks back and i lose the sms tone i put in and sometimes the ringtone.....?

Do i need to do a hard reset? to settle the phone down after the ROM update?

Any help appreciated

Richard

Normally if you update to a ROM version other than what you now have, say Orange to Qtek then hard reset is a must to make it work without problems :)
