Guest kingdom master Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 I dont know if everyone knows this already so here goes if you go to data connections on the phone and edit connections choose dial up, input number 0845 6091370 password is uk2 same as username all in lowercase. thiscomes out of your free minutes on most tariffs (BUT CHECK WITH ORANGE FIRST ON YOUR TARIFF) its charged at 4p peak and 2p off peak im using it and i get the same speeds but its cheaper and you can use it for the phone browser and when using as a modem kingdom
Guest Will Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 This is csd? So max speed is 14400? Will Edit: [Do this at your own risk, many datacalls are charged not included in free minutes, check, check and doublecheck again if you are unsure]
Guest kyrkesmith Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 In my opinion, it ain't worth it. I'm on PAYG (with free GPRS until end of month), but I'm going to continue using GPRS after it ends, even with the ridiculously high charges. But if you’re on a contract, why not just pay for a GPRS bundle and use your free minutes for something else, or reduce the number included and hence your line rental. At least with GPRS you’re paying for what you download, not simply how long you’re on for.
Guest chucky.egg Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 I havent checked this one out, but I know that I get billed for voice calls to 0845 numbers (my bank uses it for telephone banking for one) Using 14.4 or above gets billed as HSCSD which is more expensive than normal CSD (up to 9.6) But check this out (if you haven't already) Thread on GPRS - link to The Register
Guest mariolouis Posted September 14, 2003 Report Posted September 14, 2003 i really wanted to configure my phone to connect via csd. unfortunately, i don't seem to get the settings right. it says connecting then after a while, unable to place call/page cannot be found error occurs. my telco charges the first minute free. so i can always disconnect anytime within the first minute. read the contents, then connect again to open another page/link. hope someone helps. tia!
Guest hk Posted September 17, 2003 Report Posted September 17, 2003 Does anyone know off hand if Orange charge if you use 0800 numbers? Am thinking of getting an anytime service for when I am roaming with my laptop, means I could come off of vodafone, as thats all I use that number for now :/ I guess its dependant on your service agreement, will have to give them a shifty call.
Guest mcwarre Posted September 17, 2003 Report Posted September 17, 2003 HK, 0800 are free on O but if they notice that there is high usage to it they may block it. This happens when you use 0800 numbers for calling cards; they block it but (allegedly) you can get another new one. Not that I would condone that of course!
Guest mcwarre Posted September 17, 2003 Report Posted September 17, 2003 thiscomes out of your free minutes on most tariffs (BUT CHECK WITH ORANGE FIRST ON YOUR TARIFF) its charged at 4p peak and 2p off peak On E50 it is included as part of your minutes off-peak. During the day it is 35p/min
Guest Coucou Posted September 17, 2003 Report Posted September 17, 2003 I used to use international call cards to call Abroad and only certain ones worked. Another trick i've heard of is dialling into your company's switchboard then using that to dial abroad, have to know what you're doing though, which i don't. :]
Guest hk Posted September 17, 2003 Report Posted September 17, 2003 Whats wrong with calling cards? They have no real right to block it, thats just... well... lame.
Guest Coucou Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 I think they object to people using a different service provider over their network or something. It's an interesting point with the legality side of it though, wonder what OFTEL say about it? I'm not really bothered any more, my personal complication is back here now ;)
Guest Chief Posted September 19, 2003 Report Posted September 19, 2003 As of about 2 years ago all 0800 data calls are chargeable, though good value can be made out of E50 @ 1p/min offpeak.

Guest hk Posted September 24, 2003 Report Posted September 24, 2003 Spoke to Orange about 2 hours ago, they tell me they charge 10p per minute for 0800 numbers... which is really gay... ah well will keep using my vodafone sim card for dialing up when roaming around then. Tsk tsk Orange. EDIT: Hmm I should ask if 0845 numbers fall in my calling plan ;) heh heh.
Guest Maverick Posted September 25, 2003 Report Posted September 25, 2003 How do you find out how many free minutes you have left on O ?
Guest Richie M Posted September 25, 2003 Report Posted September 25, 2003 How do you find out how many free minutes you have left on O ? Dial 150 from your handset and then press 1 ;)
Guest Maverick Posted September 25, 2003 Report Posted September 25, 2003 Thanks !! I know I am a really lazy fella. BTW.. 150-1 doesnt seem to update the free minutes available regularly. It said last update was yesterday.
Guest Posted October 4, 2003 Report Posted October 4, 2003 O and T-Mobile don't charge for 0800, except for calling cards. I used to be on One2One (just before they became T-Mobile), and did get charged for 0800 data - despite not being charged for months. I think that thier system will default to not charging for 0800 numbers unless it's flagged up as being data / calling card or high use.
Guest squiff20 Posted November 2, 2003 Report Posted November 2, 2003 Hi Everyone. I Have an Orange SPV on the vodafone network, but cant seem to get the GPRS/WAP/INTERNET working. Has anyone got the answer, or better, the GPRS settings including DNS and IP Address.
Guest Matt Kirby Posted November 2, 2003 Report Posted November 2, 2003 Welcome to MoDaCo! Have a look in the http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=4861>"GPRS/WAP/MMS Settings Repository", it should have what you need.
