Over the last few years i have had many differand cell phones, as im sure many of you have. Every thing from a Nokia 5190 to a SE t68i and a few phones inbetween. I now currently own a SPVX, but i think thats gonna change. When i got the SPVX i thought it would be cool to watch movies, play awesome games (like doom), listen to mp3's etc. However after owning it for about 3 moths i dont think its the phone for me. i do like the features such as watching movies, but by the time you rip a dvd de-code it re-encode it save it to the memory card youve gone through way more trouble then i think its worth to watch it on such a tiny screen. The games are pretty cool but most new cell phones now days are able to download and play very simalar games. The mp3 play back is the one nice feature, but thats the only feature that i really use. One more thing i have to add is that this message board has made my phone so much more enjoyable, i mean how many people out there still wouldnt know how to turn on the damn speaker phone if it wasnt for this site and all the people that contribute :) your doing a wonderful job. Anyway, to get to the point of my whole post, im wondering if anyone has some good suggestions for a new phone. Should i wait for whats comming up in early 2004? Or should i pick up a SE t610/t616 now, knowing the way i change phones so frequently i might be bored with the t610 by "04" anyways.

commets, questions let me know

thanks

Jordan

P.S. the Mods. of this bored should really talk to MS or Orange i think they owe u big time. i mean think of all the phone hours you have saved them. Instead of people calling them because their phone was stuck in headset profile they came on here, or they needed to do a hard reset, etc. i could go on. you should get your people looking into this.

Don't get a T610 - You'll be very disappointed. Very slow un-intuitive menus, slow WAP browsing, no speakerphone and a very poor screen.

Mine went back

OK, so the SPV is not perfect, but what would I have instead? Nothing would fulfil my requirements better TBH. And with SPV2 just around the corner... :)

I know a number of people who've sold their SPVs, only to buy another one!

Hey friend, you will miss all the fun like updating your OS at will, installing so many games and listening to the music on your phone, to top it all the SPVx, Tanager, etc. has a great display you will not find in other phones.. I am also like you, always wanting to have new phones but now I will always find ways to have the latest MS Smartphone :)

I love my Tanagirl !

I think the problem with posting this sort of message here is that it will never get an objective response on matters relating to getting rid of the phone, as most posters here are the more hardcore users of the device. I tend to change phones every year. I agree with the posters reasons for getting rid of his smartphone for the following reasons.

I bought my SPV last november and couldn't stop using the more advanced features of this phone. It was (and still is amazing). However using the phone then led me on to thinking about getting a pocket pc. Which I then did (ipaq 1910), and as much as the SPV may have some good PDA features, it is definately not as good for those things.

Then I started to discover the potential for fun apps and games on the pocket pc. SPV is starting to look a little dejected in his cradle by this point, especially as his SD card now lives in the pocket pc. A rom update then wipes my phone and I don't bother reinstalling much software on it. The upshot is I have a nice advanced phone, that i just use for phoning, texting and using as a IR modem for my pocket pc. (most modern phones could do this).

Some people say pocket pcs are too big to have to carry with a mobile phone as well, these people must have little pockets. And all the fun bits about smartphone are better on pocket pc.

This then leads me round to the point of changing the SPV. I will definately be changing it, but what for remains to be seen. I think the T610 is a nice little phone (aesthetics is never HTC phones strong point). And if all i need to do is phone, gprs (from pocketpc) and the occasional text and still have a few cool features then thats good for me.

However, if the mitac 8380 makes an apperance then that is a different matter. This is a cool looking phone as well as having nice features, that i may use again one day. I couldn't go for the SPV2 as it is just so damned ugly. Even the kids I teach call my SPV the 'brick' and they are only 8.

As with any computer type gadget, a geek following will always form, and they are notorious for defending their purchase to the last. I don't mean to get anyones backs up with this post. Afterall relax a bit, HTC and orange aren't paying you to use their phone.

Agree on being better but carrying both? not for me unless I really have to (I mainly use PPC for excel)

I think the PPC is excellent but it's not a phone they both have their good and bad points.

The Nokia has always been called the brick even before this site was around :)

As for the SPV2 basically it's almost the same as the SPVTanager

So I presume you also think the SPV etc are ugly as well?

As with any computer type gadget, a geek following will always form, and they are notorious for defending their purchase to the last.

Not me if there is a fault etc I will always explain this rasther than hide it

as flaws can always be fixed at some point in the future.

What ever people decide to do I wish them luck.

Like me.... This is an interesting point, I was one of the first people to buy an SPV, the minute I saw it in the shop I wanted it, and I have missed it ever since I sold it and got my P800, why did I do it then you may ask... the grass is greener, why is it manufacturers always have a bit of everything you want from a product but never deliver the full package. My question is I am about to buy a E100 I can't wait to get an SPV back but now I have seen the news of a new phone, I am not bothered about the camera or bluetooth any other reasons I should wait for the new phone to arrive? some final questions if you can help please b4 I part with my dosh.

1) Are the ring tones better?

2) Voice dialing?

3) MP3 player quality improved?

4) the best to download apps, ringtones etc?

Thanks for your help ;)

Absolutely. She was a real compromise on new gadget Vs looks when i got her.

She is really a fat ugly girl.

she has the features to back up her weight problem, but my point was the fact that the novelty has definately worn off.

In my case, its the other way around, I've been using a PPC for years now but I bought the Tanager just to get something that can also do some, if not most, a PPC can do. Before I got the Tanager, I used to bring with me 2 gadgets: a PPC and my T68i...its hard to leave the PPC at home. But now that I got the smartphone, I can do with the phone without the PPC most of the time. But of course, I have to remember that the Tanager is just a phone, and cannot do all that the PPC an do. If I want to work on some word/excel or surf the net, I would prefer the bigger screen of the PPC. But if I just want to check my emails or listen to MP3s or watch videos or play some games while killing time, the Smartphone is just enough.

cheers

PS: Isnt it that HTC Taiwan is the same manufacturer for the SPV and the iPaq?
