How can I sync to a CITRIX server?

This is probably going to be a bit dry to most of you, but..............

Currently, I am connected to my network at work in the usual way and I keep my SPV and Outlook in step using Active Sync. However, we are moving to a CITRIX environment, whereby my PC will no longer be running free standing programs - instead all of the processing will be done on any one of about 15 CITRIX servers.

We have a number of SPVs and PDAs that will be seriously inconvenienced by this. If anyone has any experience of Outlook and CITRIX or even remote sync, I'd be grateful.

Ain't holing my breath, though.

We run Terminal Server and Citrix here.

You'll have to run local copies of your Outlook for ActiveSync to work, but even then it only syncs your's personal calendar and contacts. I have a Citrix session and a local installation of Outlook and they dont interfere with each other too much.

There is a "thing" from MS called Mobile Information Server (or something like that) which lets you do OTA sync'ing, but we dont have that here so I cant say how good it is. Other people have posted about it so try a search if you've got or are getting that.

Thanks, Chris.

We do the same here for now but our long term objective is to replace PCs with Windows terminals without disks etc. As you will appreciate, if you are running a terminal box even with a USB, the remote CITRIX server can't detect what device is plugged in.

Bear in mind that the thin clients are fairly restrictive.

Make sure that ALL your apps really DO run in WTS, otherwise you'll have the sort of problems we've had - we started rolling out thin clients, then went back to low-spec PCs, because some old DOS app we'd never heard of surfaced and wont run.

Even today our guys are talking to suppliers about software they claim is WTS-compliant, but actually isn't. Beware.

Oh, and one last thing, local printing isn't worth the hassle.

I'm not sure if it would work, but if you got a serial sync cable, you may be able to synchronise with the server by mapping the local COM port onto the server.
