Guest ranzz Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 First of all, I'm sorry for jumping right in with my question, if you read on (and I hope you will) you'll find that this really is kinda urgent, I've read and searched til I came to a conclusion I can only find a direct answer by asking.. so here it is. This is not a question of HOW TO do it, but a question of IS IT POSSIBLE: If I buy an Orange SPV E100 in the UK next week - Will I be able to network unlock it? I read about people succeeding, and people that didn't.. I'm not very into smartphone 2002 (yet) so I didn't quite understand all that rom talk and stuff... once I actually get my phone (and if) I will probably master it within a few days, just like I did with my Symbian operated Nokia 3650. Anyway back to my question, I'm going to the UK next week, and it is really important for me to know if I will be able to use the SPV E100, so I can immediately sell my 3650 and have cash for my trip, in order to buy the E100 I've been craving for a while! And aside from downgrading the boot rom (see, I already learned something :)) doesn't the "charger > take off battery > take out sim > put other sim > replace battery" trick work on the E100?! I know it gets canceled every use.. but that's something too in the meanwhile... Alot of thanks to whoever can supply me with some information...
Guest James Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 dont know about the sim swap trick on tin e100.... but you can sim unlock your e100 by downgrading the phones boot rom. (boot loader) with the use of an app from www.monolithix.org Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 doesn't the "charger > take off battery > take out sim > put other sim > replace battery" trick work on the E100?! I know it gets canceled every use.. Welcome to the site :) That trick did not work after the first update which was a long time ago. Only having a botloader ov V0.98 or below will now work and if you are getting an E-100 you will need to downgrade as your bootloader will be V1.00
Guest ranzz Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 Ok.. so I like.. downgrade to 0.98, and run the SPVLOCK just like people do on the regular SPV? What did I read about a solution with an SD/MMC card? does that make unlocking easier? cause I'm gonna get a card anyway... So without going into details before I buy it - you say go ahead and buy??
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 As for running the update from mono's site it has been known not to work and you get stuck on the sunset screen but running a 1.5 update restores it. As for the SD card what that means is that only the bootloader gets put on an SD card (it can fit on a 4MB one) then you transfer the bootloader from the card to the phone.
Guest ranzz Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 ummph, I didn't understand anything  First off you say I'll be able to unlock it, then I read I have to de-cert the phone, I'll probably have to do it while I'm still in the UK with my Orange sim in, right? Anyway, then you say what you told me before is known not to work? Please take it a bit slower and bear in mind I have just been reading into all that unlocking stuff for a few hours and am not as into it as other people on the site.. lots of thanks.
Guest ranzz Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 Oh wait. with the MMC/SD solution - do you guys mean a CARD READER is necessary? then I transfer the boot loader from the PC to the card and insert the card to the phone..? and that works better than using the cradle? (am I actually starting to understand something?). cause I can surely get a card reader..
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 Close but not quite :) You need someone with the required bootloader then using an app called USBterm they can copy the bootloader straight from the phone to the card. On placing the card in your phone (on Start up no need to talk about that at the moment ) the bootloader is transfered to your phone. Where in the world are you?
Guest ranzz Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 Huh well.. I can't count on that, no way in the world I'll find someone with an SPV E100 with that bootloader, or even someone with E100 at all : I live in Israel, gonna buy in UK like I said... So.. I still can't understand from all this thread, will I be able to buy it in the UK and unlock it on my pc here in Israel? And another point, does it really cost 250 pounds on pre-paid? And yet another point - should I just get a sim free + de-cert SPV from eBay? what's the difference? I heard the major difference is the better screen (apart from looks of course), will I be better off getting an SPV and not taking such a risk with the E100?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 Yes it will be possible but if you have any problems just shout :)
