Guest muff Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 EDIT - new version 1.3d with alternate viewpoint blame Will, he asked for this the other day... imagine taking a rubic cube and flattening it out, with all the surfaces still interacting (by magic) and then still trying to do the puzzle takes a little brain stretch to get used to, but it does work nicely once you get used to it Version 1.0 controls --------------------- - 1-9 rotate a slice in the direction shown by the arrows - * or # holding either of these whilst pressing a number reverses the direction of rotation - Softkey A shuffles the cube - Softkey B reset's the cube to it's virgin state - Back button quits Version 1.1 controls --------------------- - 2,3,4,5,6,8 & 0 rotate a face - * or # holding either of these whilst pressing a number reverses the direction of rotation - cursor keys 'rotate' the cube up/down/left + right - Softkey A shuffles the cube - Softkey B reset's the cube to it's virgin state - Back button quits version 1.1 also fixes the first time run bug - thanks RichieM for spotting that one V1.3d - 29th september 2003 ---------------------------------- - '3d' viewpoint + associated control changes - 1-6 rotate the faces - 7-9 rotate the center slices - 0 toggles the number display if you find it annoying - cursor keys 'rotate' the cube - * or # holding either of these whilst pressing a number reverses the direction of rotation - Softkey A shuffles the cube - Softkey B reset's the cube to it's virgin state the current state of the cube is saved when you exit, and this is automatically reloaded when the program is started enjoy muffSPVCube.zipSPVCube1_1.zip1_3d.gifSPVCube3d.zip
Guest Richie M Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003  OMG  not as tactile as Mr Rubiks (for obvious reasons) :) but still as frustrating ;) Well done Muff your a genius 8) PS i dont suppose my old Rubiks solutions book work? :?
Guest muff Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 PS i dont suppose my old Rubiks solutions book work? :? the irony is that you can convert that book to be easier to understand/use rather than talking about which slice to rotate, you could just list the moves as 1124236 or something
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 Some screenies for ya... Nice one muff :) Pshuffled.gifreset.gif

Guest spacemonkey Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 The 1.0 controls are more immediately useable... they immediately work how you'd expect. With the 1.1 controls it took me a few minutes of looking at it and spinning the thing round before I realised what the controls represented. But, once I'd got me head round it I actually really like the simplicity of the 1.1 controls and they are probably closer to the way you deal with a real rubic's cube, you look at the face nearest you and think about all your movements in it's terms... if you want to move something else, you turn the whole cube round.
Guest muff Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 I'm thinking of a half-way house between the 2 controls systems the 1.1 way of rotating faces, but the 1.0 way of rotating center slices but then there is always an isometric projection as suggested by RichieM (cheers m8) anyone have any thoughts? I dont want this to turn into an ongoing thing the length of SPVMan + SPVInvaders, but do want something people can live with
Guest Will Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 personally, i've just got used to 1.1 . But i guess with time i could use 1.0 properly. Will
