Do i take the phone to an Orange shop? HELP!!!!
Guest cpt_andy Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 Although it may be possible to fix yourself, your best bet would be to use Orange care if you have it and get a replacement handset in a couple of days. If you are not on Care, you should be able to get it repaired under warranty. This will probably take a while, but you may get a loan of a different handset from Orange while you are waiting. Cpt. Guest kyrkesmith Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 If you haven't got Orange Care, you'll need to speak to Hays on 01295662109. You'd better make it clear to them that the end of the headphone jack is stuck in the socket, because I have a feeling they may consider it to be accidental damage. Make sure they know it's not simply the problem of the phone being stuck on headset mode without anything stuck in there, because they do fix this under warranty. They may well fix yours under warranty, but I wouldn't bet on it. They quoted me £60 to fix it otherwise (incidentally, I had voided the warranty by dismanteling the phone).
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 Also if it's not a warranty claim they may charge you to return the phone :? or they will enviromentally dispose of it :)
Guest jin07958509565 Posted September 6, 2003 Report Posted September 6, 2003 THE SPV SMARTPHONE WAS PURCHASED 17th April 2003 from ORANGE. The headphones that came with the SPV was / is unfit for sale. As part of the UPGRADE PACKAGE CONTRACT from ORANGE, the headphone plug that is inserted into the SPV socket did not serve its purpose nor was it fit for the purpose. The very end tip of the headphone plug, is broken inside the SPV. I think it needs pushing or pulling out by the experts at ORANGE. The phone is still in good working order, but to hear sound, the headphone has to be reinserted. I can do everything as normal, but need to have the headphone connected to the SPV when making & recieving calls. I use the SPV for both BUSINESS & PERSONAL USE. So it is very important for me to have daily communication using the SPV Smartphone. In relation to my case should the warenty cover this type of problem? Is this a common problem? If so, how many others have suffered the same problem? My SPV SMARTPHONE was purchased on 17th April 2003 from ORANGE. Question - Should it be covered under 1 years waranty? Should it be repaired by ORANGE for FREE? I phoned up orange, they said, the phone is classed as damaged, although it is not damaged, & i should try & get it repaired, orange told me to try the orange shops locally. i called them but had no luck because as they said, the warenty would become void, so i called orange again & they told me to call Hays on 01295662109. They will tell me where to take the phone to get it repaired. I will call them, but i strongly feel i should not have to pay. The other option that ORANGE gave me was, Pay £5 for insurance cover plus £30 to have a handset replacement. BUT I DO NOT GET A HEADPHONES REPLACEMENT. This is very unfair, & very bad after care customer services from ORANGE. Orange should be ashamed of themselves with the millions that they make, & there getting more greedy & want to make money on peoples faulty goods that they sell to the consumers. The headphones was not fit for use or fit for its purpose. ORANGE are breaking the SALES OF GOODS ACT LAW if they do not replace both the SPV phone & the Headphones, because the items they sell are faulty. How many other problems are there that ORANGE are trying to shrug off. it's only a small problem causing a big headache. it's the tip of the headphone plug which is broken inside the SPV headphone socket. i strongly feel that the headphone plug is not fit for the purpose (SALES OF GOOD ACT), it should not break. The other problem that i have is that the SPV power button is not working properly. I press the power button to turn it on, & it does not turn on. It is not clicking when i press the button in gently like the other buttons on the side of the phone. I have to press the button at a certain angle to power it on. The power on button is not in the center, but touching the top of the frame in its location, and it creaks when pressed. WHERE DO I STAND LEGALY & WHAT ARE MY RIGHTS AS TO MY CASE WITH ORANGE SPV SMARTPHONE?? can someone help me out please!!!!! i'm not happy with the way i'm being dealt with by ORANGE as over the years i have contributed to thousands of pounds using their network service & using their products!!! am i being unreasonable, just think it could be anyone even you, touch wood it's not, but it shouldn't happen to anyone, bad experiences like mine should be resolved promptly without having to climb over barriers.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 6, 2003 Report Posted September 6, 2003 If you do send the phone to Hays you can be without it for 14 days+ As for the headphones, I have not heard of it breaking before :? also it is not covered by Orange insurance. Unless you want to be without the phone for a while the only option is to take out the insurance. If you don't have Orange care then the warranty for the phone lies with Hays.
Guest kyrkesmith Posted September 6, 2003 Report Posted September 6, 2003 As I said, you should phone Hays, who provide the warranty cover. The advantage of Orange Care in this situation is that it will be replaced the next day. Hays will make you send it to them to be repaired, and it takes a while. I would be very careful, and make sure Hays know exactly what has happened, because if they deem it to be (accidentally) damaged, they'll charge you for it. In that case, they will charge you £18.00 even to have it returned unrepaired. The power button thing is really just a design problem with the SPV that's been fixed with the SPV E100. I'm speaking from personal experience, because mine got stuck on heaset mode, and I tryed to fix it by wiggling the jack in the socket, which resulted in the end getting stuck in. I can't say how Hays classify this (warranty or accidental damage), but mine got classed as the latter, but I think that was because I had opened my SPV and damaged the screen in the process. They offered to fix the headset thing for £50, so if they're going to do this for you, you'd be better off buying Orange Care. I ended up buying a new SPV E100 for £250, which, depressingly, has meant I've spent £430 on SPVs.
